MG MGA - TDC mark
Hello, I hope this is not a stupid question. If say there were no timing pointers on your timing cover how can you find out where the TDC mark should go? Many thanks |

Phil Hope this isn't a stupid answer, but have you looked underneath yet? Pete |

Hi Pete, Yes am aware of where timing marks are - this is more theoretical than anything else. If you had no timing marks how do you find where the tdc mark should go? |
Phil |
Phil- Theoretically they can go anywhere. On a car engine for example you need to bring the piston to TDC on the compression stroke then make a pointer to attach to the block near to the crank pulley. Then mark the pulley where the pointer meets it. Thats now your TDC reference. Hope this helps, Gary |

Gary, Yes of course - thanks for that, I told you it was probably a stupid question |
