MG MGA - Temporary Rolling Chassis ?
I'm working on cleaning up the engine bay, and have the steering rack and shocks out for cleanup and restoration. I will need to roll the chassis out and on to a trailer for steam cleaning and painting (making use of the equipment of generous friends). Anyone have any tricks for creating a temporary running gear that will allow me to roll the chassis around ? I'm thinking of using a galvanized angle bracket (like the post of a metal book case) or something similar as a steering rack replacement attached to the tie rod ends. Picture attached of the current state. Thanks, Chuck |

Chuck, in the attached pic you will see my tricycle arrangement. I fixed a 4 x 4 lumber length to the underside of the crossmember using 6" lag bolts. Then (or rather before) I fixed a 4" castor wheel to the wood.

Thanks, Art ! A much simpler arrangement than I thought of, and also allows me to R&R the rest of the front suspension as well ! -Chuck |
