MG MGA - test a newly installed wiring harness
I want to test a new wire harness installed as part of my restoration. I'm confident that the wire connections are correct. I had left short pig tails cut from the old harness on each device, and the new color coded harness wires matched perfectly every time. I followed the factory schematic, along with several very helpful pages from Barney's website. There are of course all new grommets where the harness passes through sheet metal.
I was thinking of using a 6-8 amp battery charger I have, connected to the main cable and the ground cable in the car. This won't get the car started of course, but will it allow testing of other circuits? Any other thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks! George |

That's the way I do it too, but put an inline fuse between the positive supply and the car, that way if you have a short anywhere it will show up with a blown fuse rather than letting all your new Lucas smoke escape. |

Thanks Dominic. What amp rating should the inline fuse have? George |

30 Ampere |

I just use a pigtail with a tailight bulb in lieu of the fuse. If the light lights youy have a problem and dont burn a fuse. Sandy |

I used a household circuit-breaker wired in series between the battery live terminal and the main supply cable. ant wrong connection immediately tripped the breaker. hope this helps. |
