MG MGA - the little carb that roared
Last problem before I take the A out to my son in ohio. I must be nuts to drive it 650 miles. The rear carb has a deep throaty roar when the engine is under load. (sounds like an old modle T. Front carb no noise. Carbs are in ture, valves adjusted (not sure if the kid put high octane gas in) . Any ideas? Assume its not timing since the front carb is ok. Russell |

It sounds like your carbs are just out of synch and not in tune. Go to Barney's site or the workshop manual and find the pages on tuning the carbs. Do not start in the middle of tuning, start with step one and work through the entire process. |

Russell I am puzzled. How can you tell it's the rear carb making the noise when under load? Surely, you must be driving the car in that situation! teve |

Russell Is one of your throttle safts worn? Move them up and down and in and out. If you have movement that's the problem. I had this on my TD. David.... |

If the flex clamps on the throttle shafts are not sufficiently tight, the rear carb will open while the front one does not. |
