MG MGA - 'ticking noise' from rear brake

There is a "ticking noise" coming from the left rear brake that increases and decreases with the revolutions of the tire...only when braking.

The sound goes away when no brake is applied.

When it gets to its very slowest rotation, it becomes a "shhhck" sound.

I know its not much to go on, but any thoughts are appreciated.

Could be a dragging brake shoe, or other component (springs??) within the braking mechanism causing the sound as pressure is applied; something is moving when it shouldn't. Pull the hub and do a visual inspection, check the brake cylinder and e-brake connections as well.

I think it was caused by the fact that the slave piston wasn't sliding freely.

I'm trying not to have to disassemble the thing so I got in there with an emery cloth to clean out some corrosion and I put some penetrating oil in there.

I also replaced the brake pads. The earlier ones didn't fit so I ground them down and they weren't contacting evenly.

I haven't test driven it yet. But there you go.

"But there you go", or hopefully there you stop!
Excuse my childish humour, I hope it sorts the problem

"But there you go", or hopefully there you stop!

This is the type of thing that makes me an Anglophile.

Test drive worked out nicely...so far it appears to be "here I stop"
