MG MGA - Time to replace slutch slave?

Well things are moving alone nicely with my 1500. She has alot more pep with the standard 1500 engine than I expected. Enough torque to easily squeek the tires from a start if I'm not careful. Can't do that with my TR6 even if I try.

Now the problem. Tried to put the clutch in and it went to the floor, nothing happened. Checked everything out and it seemed ok, even started to look into how hard it would be to replace the slave cylinder. Anyway came back to it a couple of hours later, and you guessed it, no problems, clutch worked fine.

So is it time to replace the slave sylinder anyway? How hard is it to get to.

Thanks and happy driving.

Sounds more like the clutch master cylinder to me. The failure for the slave is usually leakage out the boot end. They will usually leak long before they won't actuate. The master could "correct itself" if the rubber U cup seals are rolling. The very lip of the U cup could roll over and allow the fluid to leak past it when you press the pedal. Then later it can flip back into position and work fine. I have seen this happen with hydraulic cylinders with U cup seals - bypass badly one minute and work perfect the next. If your slave isn't leaking fluid it is likely OK
Good Luck,

Like Ralph says if the slave were bad it would have an external leak, it only has the one seal. In a master cyl it can develope an internal leak where the fluid bypasses the seal that is supposed to push fliud forward. I see it all the time on cars we work on,this example is brake but a clutch can do the same thing. If you hit the brake firmly it works fine but if you hit it softly like creeping up to a light the pedal can slowly go to the floor.
Sounds like time to rebuild the masters.

It is a new Master Cylinder!

Hope it doesn't need to be rebuilt afer 6 months
