MG MGA - Torque Specification

Gentlemen,

I've been working on the vacuum pipe from the distributor to the carb.

I've been pouring over pictures and asking advice.

I'm fairly certain that the bracket that holds the body of the vacuum pipe actually bolted down to the stud that holds down the exhaust manifold.
Not the first bolt at the end of the motor but the inboard stud that's backed by a washer.

Does that nut have a torque specification?

Tysen

Tysen,
No, normally those nuts are just tightened down tight. If you use a torque wrench, I wouldn't go over about 15 - 20 foot lb.

The MGA Workshop Manual says the manifold stud nuts should be 25 lb ft.

Hi Tysen. There has been a problem with new manifold studs snapping well before 25 foot pounds of torque is applied! If you have installed nwe manifold studs, you might want to thread one into a vice mounted nut, and then apply torque. If the stud breaks before the proper torque is applied, then the studs are defective. Cheers! Glenn

Torqued my manifold studs to 25 ft lbs with no problem. Trust you have brass nuts...

Dear Steve
How would you like yours torqued and stripped...
Hope you're eating the nuts they give you up there.
