MG MGA - Transmission Bearing Numbers
I am getting ready to rebuild my transmission and replace the clutch with an MGB clutch setup. I have all the various pieces and 3 transmissions (2 MGA, 1 early MGB) to poke through. What I don't have are the bearing numbers for the MGA input and main shafts. I can't get anywhere with the R&M numbers and wondered if someone might have recent or Timken numbers for these bearings? When I rebuilt a MGB transmission in the past, I recall the bearing were considerably cheaper from sources other than the usual MG suppliers. Thanks and Happy Holidays to all. |

Bill Can you take in the old bearings to a local commercial bearing house? They should be able to match them. HTH Larry 58A |

Bill, Here are the numbers I have. First motion shaft bearing is R&M 42-97,outer race-LJ 1 3/8G (thats 1 3/8",or 11/8"), inner race-1 3/8L. This bearing has a grove in the outer race for a snap ring. The center bearing on the third motion shaft is a R&M 41-97, outer race-MJ 1 1/8, inner race-1 1/8M. The tail shaft bearing is R&M 43-97, outer race-MJ 1, inner race-1M. These were in a 1600 tranny so your tail shaft bearing may be different. Any bearing house should be able to get matching bearings for you. Hope this helps and have a good day! John |
