MG MGA - Triplex Windscreen
I'm looking for a source for the Pilkington Triplex windscreen. Seems like all the big companies have it on back order. Talked to the distributor who supplies them who said they are at least 6 weeks out. Apparently there on a ship coming from the Uk but will still need to go thru customs. I was hoping a smaller company still has one laying around so I can get this completed before the driving season starts! Also included Pic of my new wheel from "Mike Lempert". This guy does spectacular work! Took a little while but boy was it worth the wait!!

Did you try Sports and Classics? I too am looking for a new Triplex windscreen, but for a coupe. |

Bill paint that radio plate! Your car has way too much class to sport a MGB look. They look so much better when the radio plate matches the dash, as original. This is my MK11. All that is left is the interior. Should be driving soon.

I think your right! I did have another that I did paint the car color. It was a smooth metal one not the wrinkle finish. I going to try and find in in my boxes of parts and see how it looks :) Here is a pic of my car while taking my daughter for her first ride! |

RJ, Your car is looking great! Make sure you take your time.. I rememmber that point as being so exciting because your on the home stretch, however, I also found myself making stupid little errors because of being excited and rushing it...good luck and post more pic's! I think more people shold upload a pic every time they post. It makes it much more interesting. |

RJ--Where did you source your red interior? |
James Johanski |
WMR Bill---Can you give me details of the wheels you selected for your car (maker/no. spokes/rim width/tyre make & size) |
R Fisher |
Bill, have you tried contacting Pilkington Classic glass directly. 1-800 848 1351.I think it is FWC 26 but double check with them. Good luck, Duncan |

Yes I did contact Pilkington. They are getting more in but are presently sitting in the Atlantic Ocean right now. They expect them in customs in around 4 to 5 weeks. I was hoping a smaller company still had one lying around. Thanks for the suggestions |

The Red interior is from Moss. Carpet is an Amco set PO bought 20+ years ago. Bill the wrinkle finish is just paint you can sandblast it and repaint for a smooth finish. |

WMR Bill, Your steering wheel. Was that an original MGA wood steering wheel? I have one just like it and I'm told it was one. David.... |
David Honness |
Dave, No this is not an original rather a reproduction made by Mike Lempert out of South Carolina. I got his name from "Barney's site. He makes and restores wood wheels. He is one of the few guys left that really takes pride in his work. All though it takes a while to have it built, it was worth the wait. It is exact in every way to the original and half the price of the Mota wheels. That is except the wood which I changed to Bolivian Rosewood for personal reasons. If you contact him please let him know I referred you. His site is: http://www.pbase.com/mdlempert/wheels |
WMR Bill |
Bill, Thanks for the information. I am trying to keep mine as original as possible but I have glued back the wood a few times. Here is a photo of it. David..... |
David Honness |
That is absolutely beautiful (And Valuable) as an original. If you continue to have problems with the delaminating of the wood, give Mike Lempert a call! He is a super guy that goes out of his way to help you. I cannot say enough good things about him. Truly one of the few pleasant companies to deal with among the many lousy ones I am presently dealing with now :( |
WMR Bill |
In case no one noticed, David's steering wheel is not original factory style, but an after market part. |
Barney Gaylord |
And another radio blanking plate that could be painted (black) or veneered! Peter. |
P. Tilbury |
I suspect the wooden dash isn't a factory part either...but it still looks very nice. |
Andy Bounsall |
Peter, The blanking plate on my MGA is painted the original color that the dash was originally. MGA radio planking plates were either painted to the color of the dash or if the dash was vinyl covered the blanking plate was covered in the same malerial as the dash. |
David Honness |
Barney, I was told that the steering wheel was a factory option wheel from a MG person in the UK. What difference are you referring to? Andy, No the dash is not a factory option. It is aftermarket. David..... |
David Honness |
Thanks David. I knew the dash wasn't original. I was being facetious 'cause Barney was pointing out that the steering wheel was after market. My point was that the car looks good regardless of whether all the bits and pieces are original. There's info about the original wood rimmed steering wheel on Barneys site at http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/accessories/at119.htm . Comparing the photos, you can notice that the slots in the spokes are a different shape on your wheel. |
Andy Bounsall |
Andy, Thanks for the information. I see the difference. I will check with my friend in the UK and give him the link and the current photo of my wheel. He saw my car briefly 10 years ago when he was in the states. I don't want to mis-represent my car. Happy MGing, David....... |
