MG MGA - Trouble Sourcing Exhaust
Hi all,
I am in the UK and trying to source a complete stainless steel exhaust system for my 1960 Mark I. My exhaust has recently blown and I've always said to myself I'd upgrade to a complete stainless steel system when it needed replacing. A few extra horse power and different sound might be fun! I'm having trouble with usual suppliers in the UK (Moss Europe and Brown & Gammons) who can't get hold of a stainless steel tubular manifold for the forseeable future. Any ideas anyone? I've tried eBay but no s/steel ones atm. Cheers, Jason |

Hi Jason. I have a complete Maniflow system, maybe worth contacting them about s/s. Brian |

Hi Jason, I had an inlet manifold made in stainless steel by Fusion Fabrications in Thame , the guy will make what you like and everything is Tig welded The guy is very helpful His number is 07586 598716. Regards David Speak |

Many thanks for the tips! Rgds, Jason |

Jason, Thame is clearly relatively local to you. I know a couple of people have had an MGA exhaust from https://zeroexhausts.co.uk/ Regards Colin |

I had experience of a Moss S/S sports manifold. It certainly helped engine breathing, but by golly it made relaxed driving impossible due to the exhaust tone. And, as for cost …….! |

Have a look on eBay. There is the front and rear section made by Bell available. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174080011748?hash=item2887fa2de4:g:rtwAAOSwl5VduBhT Just noticed its a Moss eBay listing so they may not be available. However, its worth checking the different Moss locations. Ask them to check all their locations for stock. |

Moss seem to be out of lots and lots of parts!!!! Anyone know why? |

Anyone know why? - Really? 🤣 |

I just took my old one to a local exhaust shop and they made replicas true and accurate to original specs and stainless steel. I had 3 made, 2 for my cars and one for a mate - very reasonable cost. Barry. |

On my MGB, I made a stainless big bore system from the existing three branch PECO manifold back using proprietary stainless steel tubing and a single silencer off ebay shops. You can even specify the tubing with swaged ends, so you get good joins. Very satisfying, and came out at about half the price of a pukka system. Now been on there five years with no problems. |

Jason I have a spare used but good silencer somewhere that is either owned by me or Tim Price if it helps. Tim? Paul |

I bought a SS exhaust a couple of years ago from Midland Sports & Classics and very happy with it. It was £179. Paul - the silencer is yours to do as you see fit. Cheers Tim |

I swapped from a SS exhaust to a SS pipe and two mild steel mufflers because I found the noise from the SS system unbearable, and was pulled over twice because of the noise after the glass packing new out of the muffler. I used a standard MGA rear silencer, but cut the exhaust and inserted a cherry bomb under the drivers seat (LHD) and enjoyed the much quieter experience for many years until I sold my car this year. |

I bought mine from somewhere in the Midlands, probably Midland Sports & Classics, referred to by Tim Prime above, about ten years ago. A local classic car expert fitted it whilst doing some other work and said it was the easiest (ie best) fit of a SS system he had seen. The sound is fine and it has given no problems. Shane |
