MG MGA - Twin Cam clutch

Old topic - last thing stopping me getting on the road. New MGB clutch, operating fork, front cover and slave cylinder - all proven to work mechanically when the engine & gearbox were out of the car (I put a pipe on the end of the clutch operating fork and made sure everything moved as it should) and all was fine. Now everything is installed, piped up and bled, i am only getting about 1/4" of slave cylinder pushrod movement with full clutch pedal travel. There is no air in the system as i removed the slave cylinder from the gearbox, pushed the piston right back into the cylinder and secured it, then held the slave cylinder in such a way so that the bleed valve was uppermost and bled it again, getting the last remaining air out. It's got new master and slave cylinders plus new copper and flexible pipes. Pedal is very, very, very light but insufficient throw on the fork along with graunching gears. I'm stumped.

I forgot, it's also got a new push rod and clevis pin, so there is no loss of motion mechanically.

Colin,

Is your car a Twin Cam? Do you have the Twin Cam slave or and MGB slave? You will need the proper slave for the clutch to work properly. I had this problem with my DeLuxe

Mark,
Yes the car is a Twin Cam with everything clutch wise as per MGB, including the slave cylinder. Are you sying i need an original Twin Cam clutch slave to work the MGB fork etc?

Colin,

I believe that with the TC master you need the TC slave to get enough movement. I had this issue after my restoration. I bought a new slave that was for a regular MGA and it would not work. Once I replaced it with the correct slave all was fine.

Mark,
As i recall, the TC slave has a narrower bore, so, for a given displacement from the master cylinder piston movement, the slave piston would travel further forwards. I'll track one down and hopefully have the solution. Thanks for your help.
