MG MGA - Twin Cam on Ebay
Twin cam currently on Ebay. Seller's starting bid is £5000 ($8500) (reserve not met). My source believes that he is looking for £10,000+ ($17,000+). Seems a bit pricy for a car in that condition even if it is a TC. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MGA-Twin-Cam-roadster-RHD-MG-A_W0QQitemZ4603330592QQcategoryZ18308QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Steve |

At £5000 it might be worth it if it is matching numbers etc. However, explaining to my wife that a pile of rust is worth so much would be difficult. Shame, as I could do with a project that woul get my son off his playstation! |

A couple of years ago, I saw a twin cam engine for sale at MG Silverstone. Sold for £4000 by saturday morning. |

Hi Steve et al - yes I saw the Twin Cam on bay too - my thought was that the engine is probably seized and a potential write off - any bidder would have to assume that this is the case and price their bids accordingly - could be an exciting rebuild otherwise -wish I had the space to try it - on second thoughts perhaps it's just as well I haven't got the space otherwise I might be tempted!! I brought this one "801" in 2002 for £3k with a pushrod engine though. http://freespace.virgin.net/marka.hester/pic1.htm As for matching numbers, well the engine numbers were never recorded and it says see engine on the VIN plate, so it's very hard to say. The engine looks right to me though. http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgarh/mga/list1.html <MARK> |

I've been temped to ship it back to the USA. I own its sister car YD1 956. What do you this the shipping would cost? Don |

Don, I know this doesn't really help. I paid about £2500 to ship my TC to Perth from UK about two months ago.... Australia is a nightmare though. Fumigation, customs, etc. It had to be empty also, so you can't pack it with parts. That will make it a very well travelled car, but still unrestored. <MARK> |

The seller says he believes it has never been restored, so it could be a nightmare of rust in the body and chassis after 22 years on British roads, even before going to a barn in the States. Whilst the engine may be worth a bob or 2, it will need a total rebuild costing, I am told, up to £4000. To get this car back on the road, even for those of us providing free labour, will involve a total outlay of about £20-24,000, assuming a selling price of £10,000. I think I will give this one a miss unless my Lotto numbers come up tomorrow night. Steve |

I don't understand why anyone would let a car like that get in that bad of condition. That's really to bad. Lyle |
