MG MGA - Twin Cam Wheel Width
Could someone confirm the width of the Twin Cam wheel. Was it 4.5 J x 15 or 5J x 15 in size. I am looking at the "M" Style aluminum wheels offered by Racemettle Ltd and they offer only 6J and 7J widths - which seem a bit too wide for an MGA street application. http://racemettleltd.co.uk/wheel.html These wheels seem well made and they are produced to fit on the standard spined hubs used for wire wheel cars (no peg drive required in such cases) ...I would love to have the Twin Cam look on my standard car. Could a Twin Cam owner provide the exact width of the wheels? Thanks in advance, Jeff |

By the book, original Twin Cam wheels were 4 inches wide, same as the bolt-on steel wheels. See "mga twin cam engineering Technical Data" here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/books/tdb/tdtc_p_wheels.pdf |

Thanks Barney - that is just what I needed - I sent that to Racemettle and asked "How about producining a 4J x 15 version of your current 6J x 15 Type "M" wheel - it is a wider version/close match for the look of the Twin Cam Wheel - as you mention on your site. If they produced the 4J version - one that could be fitted to standard splined hubs, that would be a nice situation - I would certainly buy a set for my A! But I would have to take out a loan to do it! |
