MG MGA - Twincam heater - missing connector
Hi, I am missing the part that connects the pipe inlet to the thermostate housing on my MGA twincam. Can anyone tell me where to buy this connector, - alternatively, can anyone tell me which thread type is used in the thermostate housing? The enclosed picture shows the missing part (circled) Thanks! Erik, Have you tried the usual Twin Cam parts suppliers Jim Alcorn in California and Bob West in the UK? The connector was originally supplied as part of the pipe assembly item 89 with part number AHH5843. You do not seem to be a member of the Twin Cam Group website. I suggest that you put the question there. http://www.mgatwincam.homestead.com Mick |

Erik, this is a standard hydraulic union, you get this in a shop for Hydraulic connectors and hoses. Take housing and pipe with you to sort out the thread. Siggi |

The thread is not standard BSP, but 5/8"-18,which is a bit smaller in diameter. If the thread in the thermostat housing is not damaged and the pipe to the heater is original, this is what is needed. However, if the thread is damaged, one can enlarge it to 3/8" BSP.In that case you'll need to put a BSP connector on the pipe as well. Dirk/Antwerp |

Hi there, Thank you very much for your responses. The twincam is all new to me, so I am grateful for any good advise I can get. Mick, do you have web page- or email addresses on the two suppliers you mention? I will certainly join the Twin Cam group website and try there as well. The pipes I have are not original, but new ones bought from Moss in the UK - I have asked them, but they are not able to help me. |

Erik, The websites of the two suppliers of mga twin cam parts that I mentioned are: Jim Alcorn in California: http://www.autovintagery.com/ Bob West in the UK: http://bobwestclassiccars.co.uk/ They both have email addresses on their websites. Just remember that with cars over 50 years old many fitted parts can be non-standard. I support the advice of Siggi and Dirk, measure the thread on the thermostat, do not assume that it is original. Erik, Jim's email address is not on his website. It is: autovint@pacbell.net Bob has his email address on his website. Mick |
