MG MGA - Type 9 Five-Speed Rear Seal
The rear seal on my Type 9 Ford Sierra 5-Speed tranny in the MGA (w/ 1800 GV engine) has developed a moderate drip after 20 years of spotless performance. I can get a new seal kit for it, but was wondering if the seal can be replaced with relative ease without pulling the engine and tranny. Thanks for any help. |

If you're saying the rear gearbox seal, there's no need to pull anything apart. Poke it up on a hoist, remove the tailshaft, flick the old seal out of the g/box housing , tap the new seal in and refit the tailshaft. But if you're meaning the engine rear seal, then yes it's engine out for that. |
