MG MGA - Unknown eng blocks
I have three bare eng blocks ( without heads ) How do I determine what they are. TF. Mga or mgb. Can I figure it out by measuring the cyl? Bill |

I don't know much about TFs, but I believe that the XPAG had a big MG logo cast into the side of the block. Not sure about XPEG. TF blocks look considerably different to B-series. I could tell by looking, but difficult to describe. For B-series, later MGBs had five main bearings. MGB blocks will often have '1800' cast into the side of the block. AFAIK MGA and 3-bearing MGB had a mechanical tacho drive off the left rear of the block. Bore sizes would be useful, as would photos. |

If you have the engine numbers, Barney has this covered: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/be100.htm |

Adding to Dave's comment all MGA engines have 1500 or 1600 cast in large letter on on left front of block. As above B ones have 1800. TF blocks diffs to all round. Paul |

Thanks to everyone. I will be checking Bernies sight and will label them for the future. Bill |
