MG MGA - Vacuum pipe connection
I am looking for some guidance. I have just pulled the Carbs from my 1600, and in the process i discovered that the vacuum pipe from the distributor was routed around the front of the engine and then connected to the intlet manifold. Is this an accepted way of doing the connection? If not, and I am happy to change it so it routes around the back of the engine, to the rear carb, but this will then leave me with an open connector into the inlet manifold, how do I block this? Thanks Rob |

Rob As it will be a threaded hole into the manifold just screw a blanking machine screw into the hole. I actually have vacuum adapters screwed into the carb black plastic heat spacers. I use one to my cockpit vacuum gauge. The other just has a plastic cap on it. I some times use it for my external vacuum gauge when servicing. i presume the rear carb has the vacuum pipe hole for the distributor pipe? If so you could use the blanking screw from there and put it into the manifold hole. Steve |

Thanks Steve, Rear carb doesnt seem to have a blanking screw in and there are two outlets on the manifold, one for each carb. It looks like the carb is just push on rather than anything threaded. But I didnt get the full opportunity to investigate last night. Rob |

Rob Are you saying that the rear carb vacuum hole is open to the elements? If so, trying to work out the implications to your carb's tuning. The interconnecting manifold pipe is just that. I wonder why the previous owner wanted 2 tappings? Steve |
