MG MGA - Valve Adjustment
Time to adjust the valves for the first time on my A Set the engine up to check valve #1 (valve #8 open) and their isn't currently any gap. Checked another valve, no gap My had casting number is 565394 should my gap still be .017"? Russell |

Yes. No gap is bad, bad, bad, leading to loss of compression and burned valves. |

Russell - The tag on my engine (1622cc)says 15 when hot. I would expect you have a lot of noise - valve "clatter" - correct? - Ken |

Ken, Russel, If the gaps are too small, that can make the engine very quiet, especially on tickover. A slight tappet rattle on a B series engine is quite normal. Neil |
