MG MGA - Valve cover labels
The MGA valve cover has two labels rivetted to it. One with the patent numbers listed, printed in black ink, and the other with MG and two lines, printed in brown ink. Moss only sells this latter MG label with black ink. Does anyone know of a source and purchased the correct label? Thanks for your help, Peter. |

Hi Peter, Is Moss out of stock on the MG Label? It is listed as part number 408-800, VALVE COVER PLATE, MG crest for $4.15 (part number 70 on the diagram). The patent plate is part number 408-810, VALVE COVER PLATE, patent number for $5.75. If they are out, you might try a some Moss distributors. My local vendors are Foreign Parts Positively (http://www.foreignpartspositively.com/) in Vancouver, Washington and British Auto Works (http://www.britishautoworks.com/) in North Plains, Oregon. British is pretty close to me, so if they have it in stock, I would be glad to pick it up for you. Cheers, Larry |

Peter Just interested in the source of your information that the plate lettering is brown. I am not saying you are wrong, just that my replacement from 12 years ago is black and the old plate, that I assume to be the original, also appears to be black - although very faded and scratched to be absolutely positive. Peter, Scarborough Faire has the MG label in the proper color. Give them a call. Jim |

The MG logo was originally red. It fades to brown though. The plate was black on MGBs through 1965 (turned into a sticker after that). |

Hi everyone, In answer to all your input/queries - yes Moss has an MG label for the valve cover, but it is incorrect for MGA (correct for MGB) and is in black. I believe that the correct colour is red/brown. This is what is on three engines I currently have - two 1500's and a 1622. I will order the plate from Cecilia at Scarborough Faire(thanks Jim). Peter. |

Andy, Do you think this is Cecilia of SF selling these plates? (Rhode Island address) Peter. |
P. Tilbury |
Peter, someone told me once there was a relationship between the two. SF's address is in Pawtucket, while ebay seller 'noslocators' uses a mailing address in Providence. The two towns are pretty close together, so who knows. Anybody from that area who could confirm or deny? I can tell you that I purchased these same labels from this ebayer recently and that they seem to be good quality. |

NOS can't possibly be Cecelia. I had a faulty part and they changed it FOC without any nonsense whatsoever, and absolutely no debate. No asking for a return of the original, and no store credit etc. |

NOS is Scarborough Faire. Cecelia told me they sell on eBay under that name. |
