MG MGA - Valve Cover Mystery
Rebuilding my 1960 1600 engine, I noticed welded panels on both vertical inside walls of the valve cover, enclosing a woven fibre-like membrane. ?Sound or vibration control, on an MG?! I'm sure you'll know, and thanks, Bob Prentice |

Bob, On today's engines, there is usually a filter system on the valve cover, typically used to entrain the oil in the vapors and allow it to return to the engine, as it vents out there. Maybe it does the same there, I can't tell as my valve covers are still on the engine. If it is for any sound or vibration, it would have to be sound. |

Bob, I was removing dents from the valve (rocker) cover on my 1500 engine this past weekend. I took note of the panels you speak of. They do seem to be there as a noise reduction effort. |
