MG MGA - Valve Springs-Double to Single
When I rebuilding my engine I converted from the heavy stock tappets to the late MGB short bucket style with their longer pushrods. Along with this change, I installed only the outer valve spring and felpro stem seals. I can't find the reference that recommended this combination as reliable. I clearly recall reading this and giving it considerable thought beforehand. A friend has asked for the reference and darned if I can find it. Help. Thanks, Doug |

Doug, can't furnish a reference, but it makes sense to me. Unless you plan on really spinning the engine to high rpms, then you shouldn't need the inner spring and removing it make room for the better type seal. You have removed some valve train weight with the shorter type B lifters, so single springs should do fine. |
