MG MGA - Valve Stem Oil Seals
Bob(robert) midget Turbo England. Bob you reported here that you had the valve guides machined and this has cut down on the oil consumption. Can you e-mail me -- david.grahame@pcshopnet.net- and let me know where you had this done. I would be grateful to talk to you about this. Cheers David |

Replied to your email Grahame, look forward to hearing from you. As I live in North Lincs I am not too far from you and the machinist was in Lincoln. Bob |

David, I just did this also. But not yet installed. The seals I am using are FelPro SS70373. All rubber, with circlips top and bottom. I machined a groove 0.19" from the end of the inlet guides, corresponding to the bottom spring clip position. Groove is about 60 deg V .015 deep. It seems to catch the seal nicely. The grooves are cut at the guide end that is blunt, not tapered. You could cut the same thing using a triangular file with the guide in a 3/4" chuck. The seals with PTFE inserts are a pain to handle IMHO. Art |
