MG MGA - very cheap chassis on ebay
Hi All - just spotted a very cheap MGA chassis on ebay UK - listing number 360188596194. It is in Scarborough, Yorkshire - so if it is any good I dare say Bob West will pounce on it!! Now back outside in the sunshine to service my car for a sunny drive tomorrow - cheers Cam |

Surprised it hasn't gone yet Cam, it's got to be worth £40! It would be interesting to see what the side rails look like, but the top looks like it would just clean up. Left-hand drive by the looks of it. |

Interesting bit of vertical tube welded to the left side. I wonder if it had some kind of hybrid bodywork? Steve |

Steve, I didn't see the tube but I now do. There is a 2nd one on the round crossmember behind the center tunnel. I wonder if it was for some form of removable roll bar for he LH 9driver) side only. Looks to be a 1500 chassis. Chuck |

Steve and Chuck, I am almost certain the vertical tubes were for a roll bar. I have attached a photo of a factory prepared mga twin cam for the Sebring race. They welded on two vertical tubes in the Competition Department at Abingdon. Mick |

What is that horizontal tube going across below the front extention and note the the frt bumper bolt attachments have been sawed off. |

Good grief - you have got eagle eyes you lot - I hadn't spotted those - just in the right position for a LHD roll over bar though. |

Sorry, I don't agree that this is cheap or even approaching a bargain. There's nothing left on it, and what is there is not usually rusty on any car. The goal post crossbar looks to have nothing left in places. It's been royally hacked about, and I would think that the side rails are even worse than the front. It's not even worth £40 otherwise someone would already have bought it. Not even worth that in scrap value it seems. Not every MGA part is worth a fortune, and not everything is a bargain! |

With all the salt and rust here in Quebec this is what we call "pristine" LOL |
Gordon Harrison |
Gordon, The horizontal tube across the front of the Sebring race car is for the quick action jack. The jack is the type you see with a Formula 1 car, a long lever with a pivot and a right angled section that fits under the car. Mick |

I think you may be right Dominic - if it were any good it would have been snapped up by now. |

This seller has sold quite a bit of MGA stuff on eBay. A lot of it was total junk of no possible use, usually mixed in a lot with perhaps one usable part. To be fair they do not claim they are anything more. Here they clearly state "horrible, what do you expect for this price?" Considering they are a business that dismantles old sports cars for spares, I am sure they know the value of a reasonable chassis. It is obviously well beyond any kind of viable repair, we can assume the horn, transmission cover are rotten too. I suspect it will pretty much turn to dust when it's moved. |
