MG MGA - VIN - Ontario

I bought a new body plate and am going to punch the original car No.
The No. is GHNL/98813, but the G is punched very faintly and the registration paper says HLN98813. So it was overlooked originally. What to do ?

In the UK I would take a photo of the original plate and, together with a copy of the Heritage certificate, send it to the licensing authority for amendment of the registration document.

Once sorted out fit the new plate.

Art,
My '57 was originally licenced under the engine number. I live in Essex, Ontario. I sent away for the BMHIT certificate under the correct VIN, but that was not sufficient to change the number on the title. My local licence office made a call and told me if I got a signed letter from an MG dealer stating the mistake, that would suffice. Well, no chance of that, so another phone call explaining and they said if I had the car inspected by any qualified new car dealer with a signed letter on their letterhead that would work. So I had the local Chrysler dealer stop by, and write a letter with pictures of the VIN plate and stamped chassis crossmember. I then brought all that to the licence bureau, and while I waited they faxed it to the head guru, who I believe is in Belleville, he blessed it and it was all corrected. The best thing is to talk to your local licence bureau, and they will tell you what you need to do.

Well, happy ending. I first called the MTO, who advised I needed a letter from the MG dealer, or failing that, from the police. Sceptically I went to the OPP, and a nice officer told me that the police don't do that, but he had been through a VIN change on his motorcycle, by swearing and affidavit before a JP. Well I decided to take Ralph's advice and took my reistration and VIN plate to Service Ontario, who told me I needed a letter from any car dealer, which is what I did and I now have the paperwork corrected, and the whole process cost nothing, except my time.
