MG MGA - Vote for My favorite car (MGA - Woohoo!)
Here's a little self serving horn blowing. I was waiting for end of month when the voting opened up to avoid confusion. A few weeks ago the MGA With An Attitude was a featured "I Love My Car" presention on ABC 7 TV during the morning traffic report in Chicago. Now at months end you can vote for your favorite out of about 15 cars presented in October. I have no idea what "car of the month" is good for other than bragging rights, but it might help to shed a little public light on our favorite model. Go here: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=traffic&id=4626766 Vote now, vote often (this is Chicago). Flog your friends into voting too. The E-type might be a tough contender, the Citron probably not, but "Anita's pink Caddy" almost looks like a shoe-in. Could be close. |
Barney Gaylord |
Done Good luck Barney Kris |
Kris Sorensen |
Done. I really enjoy seeing MGA's out and about in the snow. Most people just store them away. Best of luck! Tom |

Add another for your bragging rights |
JEFF BECKER |
Looks like someone might be stacking the ballot box?? You got my Vote: CLiff(SC) |
Jones |
Another vote (from Canada so hope it counts!) Peter. |
P. Tilbury |
Just voted and then checked the ongoing results. So far you have 93.9% of the votes! I guess those targeted voter campaign strategies work. Don Carlberg |
D. R. Carlberg |
Another vote. John |
John Cline |
Jobs a good'n !!! 95.3%..... that E-Type's Toast |
Mark Hester |
Also done! |
Rutger |
Well, at the moment, you've got 94.3% of 160 votes. That's 151 votes for the 'A! Now is it just me, or is it next to impossible to get to the page where you actually place a vote. I somehow managed to get there yesterday. Nearly gave up, then there it was. I've just tried again this morning and I'll be damned if I can do it again. Should've left some breadcrumbs! When does the voting end, anyway. |
Derek Nicholson |
Well, I've just spent another frustrating 10 minutes trying to throw in another vote for the MGA with no success. I also thought it'd be rather fun if we could also, as a group, vote enough times for the Kia to have it beat the Jag. |
Derek Nicholson |
Voted, 239 votes at 79%. Good luck Barney |
Gordon Harrison |
I had to turn off my pop-up stopper to get to the vote window. (I voted for the MGA, of course!) John |
J.P. Leonard |
My vote is in...and since it is a Chicago ballot, how do I get my deceased relatives to vote, too? |
Frank Nocera |
MGA All The Way! CHRIS |
chris Hausbeck |
I hope English votes count. Good luck. |
Nigel Munford |
>My vote is in...and since it is a Chicago ballot, how do I get my >deceased relatives to vote, too? Bold words from the man in Florida. |
Del Rawlins |
Yesterday I could not find the vote page. With the popup blocker turned off it came up right away today. GO Barney! GO MGA |
R J Brown |
Barney, You got about 15 of my votes... Cheers - Dennis |
Dennis & Pat Rainey |
Barney, My vote is in. At that point you had 76.9% of the vote. Your nearest competator had 4.7% of the vote. Sorry Anita! Randy Myers |
Randy Myers |
My vote is in. Seems to work better with Internet Explorer than with Netscape. Looks like a landslide victory for the MGA! George Goeppner Chicagoland MG Club |
G Goeppner |
For ever MGA. My vote is for Barney of corse. |
Wim Betzel |
vote submitted. But we're down to 56%!! rest easy, the closest is the 2004 Cobra w/ 10% |
BryanP |
Am I being dumb? When I hit the "Vote: Which is your favourite?" all I get is the screen scrolling to the current % ratings. I do not get a voting option - whatever it looks like? Steve |
Steve Gyles |
Look closely at that Cobra picture. I'd swear it was a model car...! |
G Goeppner |
Touche, Del! |
Frank Nocera |
OK, the fix...errr..vote is in! Steve, I had to click on the "I love my car" submissions link, the click on the "vote" link before it would show the ballot. I do have IE. George, I think that green lighting under the Cobra (Mustang really) is what makes it look like a model. Too bad the MG is a roadster and not a coupe (sorry Barney)..it'd really be a run-away vote :) GTF |
G T Foster |
Done. Barney will always have my vote! |
Mike Addy |
One more for Barney! Larry |
Larry Hallanger |
Done. Does Barney have relatives(dead or alive)named Daley? |
Bob Prentice |
I have recorded multiple votes, but with some difficulty. I am only doing this as a professional study for using when (if ever) our Federal voting goes online. You have to get rid of politicians somehow. However, after accepting multiple votes the total number stays on 729 votes. Has the poll ended? I have Windows 98 SE and Internet Explorer 6. I find that after each vote you have to clear your "Cookie" files. These are in a subdirectory of the "Windows" directory. Then choose the "I love my car" option, but leave blank. Then choose the vote option. Clear the new cookies and start again. "Cookies" are files left on your computer from a visited website, unless you have your IE options set to "no cookies". The voting web page knows that you have been there before. Mick |
Mick Anderson |
The total of votes recorded seems to be working. It is just that there is a delay in changing the total. I put in four votes and the counter went up by four. I feel like an honorary citizen of Chicago, "vote early and vote often!" Mick |
Mick Anderson |
Got my vote Barney, hope you win! |
LuvMyMG. |
I have heard in voting situations like this, there are rules against multiple votes from the same computer. And if they find you have these, they disqualify you. So please don't risk Barney's win by cheating. He doesn't need it. |
Tom |
another one from belgium http://users.pandora.be/mga_world/ http://users.pandora.be/mga_world/MG_A_Forum_Members/album/index.html |

A friend just sent a note saying my car was featured again in the early motning traffic report today, so I guess the decision is final. I would like to thank everyone for 52% of nearly 800 votes. No need for a run-off election. Second place was just under 10%. It's a mandate MG rules! |
Barney Gaylord |
BARNEY FOR PRESIDENT HOORAH HOORAH HOORAH LOL |
Gordon Harrison |
I have heard about stacking the deck in your favor, remind me NOT to play poker with Barney!!!!! |
JEFF BECKER |
The link to the TV website, in Barney's first message, now shows his car as the winner for October. A past Mayor of Chicago, Mayor Daley, would be proud. Any suggestions on how we should use our resources on the upcoming US elections? Does any candidate own a MGA? Mick |
Mick Anderson |
Gordon- What did Barney do to you? LOL Mick- and the current Mayor Daley! |
gary starr |
Okay, I'll concede. I have a brother who lived in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago for nearly 40 years, not far from the Daley residence. We do understand Chicago elections. It's all about get out the vote (for your own party of course). A little patronage goes a long way. |
Barney Gaylord |
Must be a great feeling: winning from a six year old in a pedal car !!! What a pompous prick you are Gaylord !!! You're all a bunch of sad anoraks ! |
Jonesy |
Shucks, Jonesy. You can't even get an insult right. Anorak is a parka. The pedal car came in 13th out of 15 cars, beating out two cars in it's own right. |
Barney Gaylord |
Mayor Daley is the scum of the earth. He stole a beautiful airport using airport transfers tonbridge, Meigs, so he could build a park to honor himself. Talk about self worship, the ego run amok. Broke a bunch of laws doing it to and nobody had the balls to stand up to him. Politics as usual in Chicago. |
R J Brown |
I didn't say Chicago politics was good, only that I understand how it works. I was a bit more impressed with the machine politcs of older Mayor Daley than the younger one. The interrim Mayor Bilandic was defeated in election by Jane Burns because he failed to clear snow from the side streets. That would never be a problem with the older Mayor Daley. He wouldn't let it snow that much. |
Barney Gaylord |
All right Barney, now that you've won we're waiting for the 'patronage' to start flowing. Our votes were early and often as requested. Nothing needed for me, I already owed you one for the deal on the B shock valves. ;-) |
Bill Young |
Hey Barney, I still have not received my $5.00 for my vote yet!!! |
JEFF BECKER |
Nor have I Jeff... There was no contest really and we are so cheap! But the 'A' is a nice thing to be able to vote for. Pete |
Pete Tipping |
This is fun. Since the "election" is long past, I suppose it's okay to re-route the topic a bit. The last few responders apparently don't understand patronage. I didn't promise anyone anything for the votes. The larger part of patronage has to happen before the election. Anything that happens after the election may be in preparation for the next one. Apparently most of the supporting votes were cast on the basis of past loyalty, either to me or to the car or to the MG brand in general. Maybe some of the votes were cast in a sense of repayment for past favors. I hope a lot lf the votes were cast in support of the MG brand and to further publicity for the brand and the hobby. Above all else, this group as a whole should take heart in the fact that as a group we may have considerable collective influence on things closely related to MG cars. If we can whip up over 400 votes in less than 48 hours for an almost meaningless election for a single car, think about what we can do to influence quality control for the car parts we need to buy. Just a thought. |
Barney Gaylord |
Hmmm. Interesting thought, Barney. We could be like the consumers' version of the British Motor Trade Association. Regards, M.D. '57 Coupe |
M. D. |
Mick in Sydney Yup there actually is a candidate for Congress running for re-election who owns an MGA - She is a member of our local club here in Brooksville, Florida. In Florida as well as other states Congresspersons get one special congressional license plate for their car - she chose to have it on her MGA. For a picture of the place go here http://www.mgcars.org.uk/namgbr/congress.html Rick |
Rick Brown |
Rick Interesting backup lights. Any chance of a picture of the entire back end of the car? Thanks Larry 58A |
Larry Hallanger |
What is all that white stuff - we don't have that here! |
Mike Ellsmore |
I would like to add this one to my web list of Notable Special MGA. There are currently FIVE congresswomen from Florida. So which one? Can I assume the "5" on the plate refers to 5th district Ginny Brown-Waite? |
Barney Gaylord |
Barney & Larry Ok I have loaded a better picture of the back of the car http://www.mgcars.org.uk/namgbr/congress.html and Yes it is Ginny Brown-Waite - if you are in the 5th congressional district of Florida Vote on Tuesday! Rick |
Rick Brown |
Mike. Cocaine? |
Derek Nicholson |
Is Ginny Republican, Democrat or what? Gives me a real incentive to watch next Tues. Bob |
Bob Prentice |
Knock yourself out, Bob:- http://brown-waite.house.gov/ |
Derek Nicholson |
I can't quite figure out what her party affiliation is. Any mention of party affiliation is conspicuously absent from her website! Based on her praise of the fence bill, I assume she's Republican, but not sure. M.D. '57 Coupe |
M. D. |
Republican unfortunately Rick |
Rick Brown |
And this seemed like such a nice, non political forum. |
Del Rawlins |
Was she re-elected? |
Steve Gyles |
Not here. General rejoicing being expressed everywhere I go.... |
dominic clancy |
She won, 62% to 38%. Rumor has it that she credits the MGA as part of the reason for her victory :) |
