MG MGA - Water pump... New???
What is the better option when rebuilding the engine...rebuild the original water pump or buy a new after market pump...??? I'm curious about the pros and cons from everyone on this site, I have learned quite a bit already....from the been there, done that guys....thanks, Mike |

Mike, the original water pumps were cast iron making them much stronger. Most of the replacements are aluminum. I have used the new Moss aluminum pump for several years with no problems. Just don't try lifting the engine with the generator mount ear. |

You will be extremely fortunate to find the bits to rebuild an original pump. Many of the aftermarket pumps are made of cast and may just fool a concours judge into believing your car is restored. |

Plus many after market pumps have plastic impellers. I think Universtiy Motors in Ada Michigan rebuild the original pumps. |

Moss is now selling new iron body water pumps for MGA. |

Concur with Barney. Last two water pumps ordered from Moss were good quality cast iron bodies and impellers. I used them to replace cheap aluminium body with plastic impeller type pumps that had failed on two different engines. Both have been running fine. Karl |
