MG MGA - Wet UK
I hold my hands up to the Mighty God Above (MGA) and admit that today I had to put the hood up (head bowed in shame). Apparently June in the UK has been the wettest since records began and many places had a month's rainful in less than one day. Floods everywhere. Mind you, I now have a job to do on my car - see 'Most Worried From Preston UK'. Four of the 6 fasteners have popped on each sidescreen forward attachment strut - shows how often they get an airing! engine still purring through the floods. Steve |

You realize of course that you are the root cause of this inclement weather Steve. Tempting the Gods and all with your suggestion that an LBC was running to perfection. Geesh...what ever next! |
Andy Bounsall |
Steve, That amounts to a Rain Affected Failure (RAF). Are you qualified to operate with a hood-up display? Sounds like pilot terror to me... Shane |

Steve, How water tight is the car in these conditions. I particularly mean around the wheels. Do the splash panels keep all the rain from going behind the panels, and if not, does it then drain away, or is it sat there, turning to rust. |
Nigel Munford |
Nigel It was just wet from above over here in Preston, no floods. You are better asking that question of someone in the Sheffield area! Pleased to say that this morning the hood is back in its rightful position behind the seats and the sidescreens are repaired. Engine still purring. Steve |

Steve I was forced into the same situation this morning. Bu$$#r!! I have not had the roof up since April even though I have driven the A to work almost every day (I travel a lot and have missed most of the rainy days here!!). Leaks are a thing of the past now I have duct tape in the car to go along between the header rail and the screen!! Not even a drop on me until I opened the door and got out. My A is also purring like a kitten from its regular usage. Neil |

Neil I have also found that putting duct tape along the top front of the hood is the only way to keep dry in a heavy downpour. The clean up after taking the tape off is a bit of a mess but worth the effort to keep rain from falling on my knees whilst driving. Rick |

The very few times I have put my hood up I have not had any problems with leaks along the front rail. I don't have any extra sealing nor the centre catch. Am I just fortunate, or am I just fortunate that the centre rail is a good fit? I recall spending a bit of time planing the rail to be a good fit to the chromed top windscreen rail before fitting the hood, but that is all. Steve |

Steve, There are two answers, either you are going too slow for the rain to penetrate through to the interior, or you are going so fast that the rain dries up before it reaches you! I tip the latter! However it is more probable that the weather flap hangs down over the windscreen by the correct dimension. I have seen many in recent years that are shorter than original and leak. The correct length covers a bit of the glass, not just the windscreen frame. Barry |

Hi Barry Britain is sinking under the weight of rain water. A number of cities and towns flooded and a dam threatening to burst, causing the M1 to be closed at Sheffield. Not seen anything like this in the UK in summer before. I think you are right about the flap, not my driving! Mind you the water gets in most other places, but not under the flap. I am surprised that someone has not come up with the idea of glueing a blade-type rubber strip on the inside of the flap to prevent water travelling up underneath. See my schematic attached. Steve |

Hi Steve Hope you are not afloat, we've been lucky down in Somerset, just some localised floods. We are fortunate to have sluiced rivers that prevent the tide coming inland. I entered the sprint at Silverstone at the weekend, guess what, I rained ! Even my coupe leaked. Terry |

You guys in the UK aren't kidding about the rain. I just saw a number of photos from Sheffield on the Weather Underground web site, looks like a disaster in the making there. There's a lot of flooding in Texas here in the states, but around Chicago just some flooded basements and viaducts. Good luck to you, try to stay dry! George |

Thanks George Got wet again tonight on the way home. Back to the towel across the lap instead of hood up. The rain has settled in for the night again, stair rodding down. Even my gold fish in the pond are sheltering under the water lillies! Another inch and they will be swimming across the lawn. Steve |
