MG MGA - what can go wrong?
Some previous owner of my car has switched the rev counter and the speedo. I am going to swap them this weekend. What can go wrong? All I need to do is make sure the cables are in the right unit, and the wires for main beam, ignition etc. are swapped as well. Am I correct, and why would they have been switched in the first place. |

Well, there are literally hundreds of things that can go wrong. Wait, no. Sorry. There aren't many things that can go wrong here. You seem to have the theory of it alright. My guess as to why they were switched? The PO was left-handed. Or confused. Or very, very clever. We may never know. ;) |

Hi disconnnect the battery before you start fidling with cables etc behind the dashboard, the smell of burning fingers is not pleasant, I know lol gordon |

Thanks for that. What route does the speedo cable go? Any pictures? Thanks. |

Nigel This link shows where the cables go through the bulkhead. http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/mga/Bulkhead_Deluxe.jpg Steve |

Steve, -- If I member right, that picture is from a MK-II Deluxe model, so things like master cylinder mount are different, and no turn signal relay. Here's the layout for the 1500 model: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/body/bd105.htm It is common practice to swap positions of the instruments on a LHD car to put the tachometer and safety gauge side by side (as they are on a RHD car). |

Well I'm left handed and I have a 1956 MGA and my tach., and speedo are switched. The good news is I purchased a whole set of gauges from a really bad rusted 1956 MGA,had the gauges restored and soon will be putting them in my A. Tom |

I didn't realize there were left handed and right handed gauges, Tom. |
