MG MGA - What is your Daily Driver
Hi all, I just bought a Mini Cooper S, and I have to say it is the most fun I've had in a non MG car. So I started to wonder, how many MGA people drive Mini's as there everyday ride. What else do MG people drive? Don YD1 956 |

Don I have an 03 MINI cooper and a 73 Mini 1000 which I pretty much drive equally throughout the year. See Classic Motorsports magazine July Issue for some pics of the 73. Also have a 61 MGA 1600. Rick Packing to go to Gattlinburg on Tuesday!! |

Well after many years of running early 2-stroke and V-4 Saabs dating from the mid 50's to the early 70's, and having less time to tinker with a daily driver, I wanted a dependable, trouble free fun car. A friend of mine steered me towards a Nissan Sentra SE-R ('91-'94). Car and Driver and Road and Track included it in their top 10 every year it was produced. The inside story: Standard Sentra 2-door body style but with tasteful rear deck spoiler, alloy wheels and driving lights. The 2.0 engine from their Infinity line (200-300K is common without overhaul)) Close ratio gearbox Limited slip differential Disc brakes all around Seats with bolsters on back and bottom Front/rear sway bars Adjustable steering wheel 7500 RPM redline Top speed....ready now?....140 ! All features were standard! It was and is a real 'Sleeper". Compared at the time equivakent to the BMW 325l, I bought it used with 120K for $3000.00 Now has 200K. No engine work ..ever. I upgraded to poly busings and s/s brake hoses. Usual maintenance stuff, like axles, brakes, etc. I haven't felt this good about a vehicle since I owned my '58 MGA in 1966. By the way I'm liquidating all my Saab V-4 parts (20 years worth). Will consider trades for MGA parts Al |

An identical titled thread was run in March with 68 responses: http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=archiveth&archiveyear=6_2006.dat&access=&subject=6&subjectar=6&source=T&thread=2006030919502830241 It may perhaps be interesting to see how many of those are now using the MGAs as the daily driver now that summer is here. Still washing the salt and crud off mine and putting the hood up to stretch out the creases from its otherwise permanently folded away position. Roll on winter and real sports car driving weather! Copy and paste from the previous thread, because it's still accurate! "Right hand drive 1967 MGB GT. When I get my '65 MGB rodaster's engine back together, it will once again be my daily driver as it has been for most of my life." |

Hi Don, I used to drive a '60 Mini (actually an Austin Seven) as my everyday car in the early 70s when my '61 midget ( also an every day car) expired due to the dreaded rust bug - not a collectable classic then and worth more in bits than as a complete car. I now use a Rover 75 Tourer as an everyday car (a lot more comfortable and draught free than an early mini)although I still prefer driving my 1960 A in the sun. PS Steve Gyles - you are very hardy or a masochist (must be flying Lightnings that did it!!). Cheers Cam |

I drive a 71 B Conv every day. The 57 MGA is in boxes. I do dream about a car with an Air conditioner during the spring and summer. And I have no radio - why bother in a B anyway! I must say that more people want rides in the MGB in the fall! Cheers |
