MG MGA - which mgb cylinder head
I have two tweeked mgb cylinder head. One is a reconditioned rubber bumper spec head , polishedwith 3 angle valve seats, 38cc combustion chamberes and skimmed to give 9.6:1 cr on an 1830cc block. The other is an 18ga head which is an unknown quantity. I cansee it has had work and came from a car that was raced. I need to sell one. Which one is most suitable for my 1500? |

If I remember correctly, the MGA cylinder heads have about 44cc and at that give about 8.8 to 1. The rubber bumper heads here in the USA are supposed to be around 34cc. The late heads have a better combustion chamber but the volume difference is one thing to consider. The external appearance is also different, so it depends on what your looking for there too. The book by Peter Burgess on how to tune your MGB has lots of head info. Also mgbmga.com and mgaguru.com have lots of head information that may help you in this decision. -BMC. |
