MG MGA - Which needles?
A friend of mine has a '72 MGB 1800cc 5-main engine fitted in his MGA, with MGA H4 carbs. Does anyone have a similar set up and know which needles should be fitted for the correct idle/running mixture? Thanks for your help, Peter. |

Peter I have the same set up. I kept the MGA needles in. Just retuned the carbs. Steve |

Peter, I have a 1800 three main running with #5 needles. This was suggested by Jimmy Hilton (SU rebuilder). Engine runs great. Jim |

I have a similar setup in my car and am using #5 needles. |

Thanks Jim and Andy - #5 needle seems to be a little weaker (leaner) than the std 1600cc (actually 1588cc) #6 needle, which is what he has at the moment. (I should have mentioned that #6 was what he currently has fitted.) Steve - which MGA needle do you have in - the #6 std for a 1600 engine, or GS std for the 1500 engine? My book does not list the needles for a 1622 engine, which is what i have just installed in my coupe, so I will have to investigate this as well in future.(previously a 1500 engine) Peter. |
