MG MGA - why oh why
Hi all, why did I go back to a frogeye, they are nice little cars , but my knees hurt , I.ve done my back,my head has more scars on top from the bits under the bonnet and the old boy with his electric powered bicyle can now overtake me again and everyone at work calls me Noddy ,better than Big Ears I suppose , caught site of myself in a shop window in town and the resemblence to Mr Toad was uncanny Gordon |

Gordon Any chance of a photo of you in the car so that we can all make a judgement?! Lol Steve |
Steve Gyles |
Hi Steve you don't think for one minute that I would allow physical proof to exist lol, although her's one in my last frogeye a couple of years ago before I though I'd learn't the error of my ways, roll on my twin cam I wish Gordon |

opps forgot picture

Gordon, Sorry to hear of your displeasure. If you still have the wife and tools, all is not lost! I will pray for your swift recovery and acquistion of a proper sporting conveyance. |
James Johanski |
Gordon, I suppose that photo was taken at Midday in Summer. I always wondered why we had so many people from Cornwall in Australia. Mick |

Gordon Bin the Frogeye. Nice little Twin Cam project for you here on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MGA-TWIN-CAM-RESTORATION-PROJECT_W0QQitemZ190219578094QQihZ009QQcategoryZ29757QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Steve |
Steve Gyles |
Gordon, I'm sure you will get to like the Frogeye eventually - but it was a basic sports car whilst the MGA was a little more up market costing nearly twice as much!! I remember the back ache from my Mark1 midget, which had the same seats. Steve - I saw the Twin cam restoration too - don't fancy the job of sorting out those corroded engine bits - cheers Cam |
Cam Cunningham |
I test drove a nicely resored "frog-eye" this weekend at the Buttonwillow event. It just had a $4,000 paint job. Priced at $12,500. Fell in love, again. It took me back to that weekend, Junior in High School, friend showed up with his Dad's Sprite. He got the girl, I got the car, and the better deal. Took off up a mountain road. Boy! It didnt drive like my Dad's Dodge! It all came back. I was in love all over. Very tempting. Steve |
Steve Meline |
Gordon, If a little more power is all you need in your Sprite, there is always Aaron Couper's Jag-powered solution, from the British V8 website. Maybe an mga twin cam engine would be enough. Ken |

HI all James glad to say I still have tools wife is another matter "only joking dear" Mick you have obviously been to Cornwall lol was in May 06 actualy lol Steve and Cam too much for me, no good at restoration work just like buying bits on Ebay lol funnily enough the chap where I bought the frogeye has a Twin Cam roadster that is all complete but unrestored he says he might get round to it one day Gordon |
g c pugh |
Gordon, I am about 70% complete with my 64 AH 3000 restoration and was contemplating my next project of a bugeye or a TR 6. Are you saying that the bugeye is not worth the effort? Thanks and have a good day! John |
John Progess |
For th0se who have no idea what / who Noddy is, here is a picture of Gordon in his nice new car
|

Dominic You beat me to it! I was going to post the same. But where is Big Ears? Steve |
Steve Gyles |
And let's not forget Mr Toad. Ok Gordon, which has the closest resemblence? Steve |
Steve Gyles |
Like the old joke Who do elephants have big ears Bevause Noddy won't pay the ransom.... I'll get my hat |
dominic clancy |
Ha Ha very funny you lot, Mrs Teddy says I've got to tell Mr Plod on you all. Hi John don't do a frogeye unless you have a very large mantleplace over the fire and you can mount it on a piece of wood and just look at it Gordon |
g c pugh |
this one might be ok |
g c pugh |
Okay guys I have to give in , my knees have gone , my neck is frozen all sorts of other bits packing up and Moss don't have much of a spares range for the human body so I think the frogeye will have to go, I figure I can't afford a decent roadster but I can probably manage a fairly decent, stock, coupe so if anyone knows of such an animal let me know, I did miss a lovely original old car yesterday that was on the MG Owners Club site Gordon |
g c pugh |
Gordon It would seem that we have failed miserably to get rid of you!! Welcome back, even if you have not got an A yet. Be truthful, was it the Noddy image or was it genuinely too small for you? Or are you really Mr Wobbly Man (a funny little man who cannot lie down. He has a round base which he wobbles about on. He rocks back and forth to get around). Did you get rid of all your tool kits (intentionally plural)? Do I need to start searching the car boots for you? Lol. Life not the same without you. Steve |
Steve Gyles |
Hi Steve very much like the wibbly wobbly man and I do hope to return in the near future all be it with a tin lid probably lol Gordon ps all tool kits present and correct |
g c pugh |
Gee, I thought I was getting old... Glad I am not too old for a Frogeye! Drove mine home in February over 3200 miles. I guess I am glad it does not have the "proper" seats.
|
David Lieb |
David you either need a medal or looking after in a secure home I can't decide which lol gordon |
g c pugh |
I think it is the home. Please note that my DPO had installed a set of Porsche 914 seats, so it doesn't realy count. It had also been enhanced with a 1098 engine, Datsun 5-speed, and disk brakes. All the comforts of home ;-) |
David Lieb |
Complain about your frogeye if you must, Gordon, but heed the cries of the tormented Morgan 4/4 drivers bouncing about with bums barely lifted above the road. Having suffered both, I do believe that you're seated in the lap of comparative luxury. Of course, when I lived in Cornwall years ago I owned a venerable Wolesley saloon, a model I commend for its durability in bouncing off the occasional hedgerow. It has exceptional room for tools, too! Ken |
Ken Korey |
Gordon, if anyone should complain about the relative lack of space in a frogeye, its me, I am 6ft 5 and I can confirm a certain amount of backache from driving, and from leaning into the engine bay, but really, its worth it. And yes, Noddy has been aimed at me more than once, I don't care !! |
RUS(59SPRITE) |
Gordon If you prefer the roadster option to the coupe you could always go down the cheaper route of a ready made kit car. The type in the image just requires the main body tub finishing in yellow. The wings are already the correct colour. Steve |
Steve Gyles |
Hi Steve even I'm not that desperate lol Rus looks a lovely frogeye look nice mounted on a wooden plinth lol Ken anyone who buys a Morgan deserves everything they get lol so it was you who put the holes in the hedges Gordon |
g c pugh |
Hi all returning to MGA fold with this one gordon any comments or knowledge of the car very welcome will put some more on gordon |
g c pugh |

g c pugh |
Outstanding, Gordon!! I wish you greatest happiness and a long life together! I can see that it's properly prepared for trousers, but I don't quite see how they might be fitted. Please post an image when its all suited up. Ken |
