MG MGA - wilwood brakes and pedals
The recent discussion on parts for front brake conversions and brake upgrades has got me thinking. Already have the full front MGB crossmember and brakes on my MGA so originality is not an issue. If I can be shown a wilwood cylinder/pedal assembly that would work in an MGA I might buy one and GIVE (as in free) my entire original pedal assembly (including the right hand drive gas pedal) from my racer to a suitable recipient. Any suggestions on viability/suggested prts? regards Mark |

Mark, I dont have any pictures, but I'm sure wilwoods would fit. I have Rover SD1 police spec callipers which are 4pots based on the Princess 4pot, but are slightly larger. They just fit the 15" steel and wire wheels. I'm sure that the wilwoods would fit as they are overall size smaller than the princess, but offer as good if not better piston size and stopping power, what with modern technologies and all that jazz. Hi Mark, My brother's MGA in Perth has wilwood 4 pot callipers and I think sigma ventilated discs fitted. All that was required was a special adapter. Make sure you measure the pedal pressure when they are fitted. We managed to push 1500 PSI from memory, which was in excess of the wilwood maximum. I'll see if he can post a photo for you. He has twin cam front hubs though. Cheers Mark. |

Willwood Calipers.... can't remember the model No. Note the 10mm spacers in the top MGA Shock to take the MGB stub axle Cheers Mark. |

Mitsubishi Sigma Rotors. Note the 22mm Sway Bar. Cut down bump stops. 480 Ibs springs (soft) |

Anyone have the Moss Wilwood setup? I would really like to get the dimensions of the adapter for the radial mount Dynapro calipers they use in the MGB spindle mount conversion. Thanks, Steve |

Sorry guys I meant I was interested in fitting a wilwood or alternate brake/accelerator assembly thus making my original set available to anyone who needed an original set. Already has a complete MGB front end (including crossmember) |

Hi Mark, could you post a photo of your wilwood pedal setup please. I'd like to see how it was done and if you managed to get a dual circuit master cylinder to fit without cutting a hole on the firewall. Cheers Mark. |

Mark, I saved this photo of a Twin Cam coupe several years ago and can't remember where on the net I found it. I remember that the car has a Wilwood setup and you can just see the tops of the three master cylinders in the photo (LHD car). Perhaps someone will recongize the car and be able to find the rest of the information.

most likely here, as the car has an Auto Vintagery sticker on the front: http://www.autovintagery.com/photos.html Not sure thats wilwood though Cheers Mark. |

Sorry guys have an original setup but want the wilwood regards mark |

If you have a stock disc brake system in good shape you don't need Wilwoods unless you use the car for racing. If you DO race with the car, many (most) organisations do not allow the use of the Wilwoods in vintage. Catch 22. |

Hi Mark, Luckily in Oz they don't get too carried away with the rules on originality, especially when it comes to safety and brakes. I take it this is the sort of thing your looking to fit: http://www.wilwood.com/Products/005-PedalAssemblies/index.asp First question is why willwood pedals and master cylinders? Their setup still looks like you need to make a mounting frame to fit to the body. I take it you want dual circuit brakes for safety? Modifying the MGA mounting cage is possible and then fit another dual circuit master of the same diameter which are always longer. Cheers Mark. |

Mark, Is this what you're looking for? This is a one piece pedal assy that takes care of the dual circuit brakes with ft/rr bias bar and clutch. If I were to do it again I would use remote reservoirs to make easier filling as well as larger volume I feel uneasy not checking the fluid after each session. Also for the clutch I used the same 3/4" master as the brakes and would like to use something bigger to push more fluid and get more throw on the slave. |

Here's a shot of the interior and you can see the pedals just below the dash. If you'd like I can get a better shot of the pedals at the firewall/shelf.

Nice set up. Does that eliminate the wiper motor? |
Barney Gaylord |
Mark, This maybe of use to you if your swapping the master cylinder. http://www.markwilliams.com/braketech.aspx Cheers Mark. |

Barney, John's car is strictly for racing, no windshield or wipers fitted although from the photo it appears that there would be room for the cable housing to pass by the clutch slave. |
Bill Young |
Bill's correct Barney. No wiper motor on the race car though the wiper boxes are there. Just had a look under the hood again and I think that if one were to raise the motor an inch it might fit. |
