MG MGA - Windscreen mounted Side Rear View Mirror
Hi All, Does anyone out there know the part number for this period item. I think it's off a mini. It's a small rectangular mirror which clips to the windscreen frame. I'm trying to get my twin cam over the local licensing, but being LHD in a RHD country it must have...... 3 that's right three mirrors.... They were OK with it not having seat belts.... go figure... Thanks in advance. Mark. |

Mark Holden Vintage and Classic do the Mini overtaking mirror. See here: http://www.holden.co.uk/viewProducts.asp?supergroup=Hardware&analysiscode=0256&groupname=Mirrors&group=092 Steve |

MArk, Holden P/No 090.149 is more 'period' and looks nicer on an MGA, but it's £49 plus VAT. regards Colin |

I used the round one part number 094.330 Same fitment as the rectangular but I think looks much nicer given the MGA's curves. Chris |

Wow, that's a hell of a selection of overtaking mirrors available from Holden. But which one is going to fasten to an MGA roadster the easiest. From what I see, they are designed to attach to the "glass channel" or Mini body seam. Now I try to think "outside the box". I recently imported into Canada from the US a (1991) car . In Canada, a car from that year was fitted with daytime running lights. Not so in the US. To get through the inspection, I temporarily ran a wire from a convenient source with power when the engine was running (heater blower fan) to the headlights. After passing the inspection, and before leaving the parking lot, I removed the jumper. Yes, for a few minutes, I had 3-speed headlights, controlled by the fan switch! Could you attach a mirror temporarily to get through the inspection and then remove it? I doubt if the Police would notice or care if you had a third one installed. |

Hi Mark Stafford Vehicle components sell a nice oval mirror which suits the curves of the MGA .They can supply a hollow ball joint mount that can be fitted to the windscreen uprights by fitting a longer screw.I have two of these fitted on my car and have had a lot of interest in them when ever it is parked Regards David |

I made a small plate out of stainless steel that attaches to the windshield frame with one of the existing screws. Then I just used a standard wing mount mirror attached to the plate. Several people have looked at mine, and made one of their own. It isn't difficult to do if you have the material available. |

Ed I have much the same as you. This is mine: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/rear_view_mirrors.htm Steve |

I have a plastic clip-on mirror about 2.5" x 2" that fits on to the windscreen brace. It is convex so great for overtaking when you have a suitcase strapped to the carrier. Cost Cdn$2.99 (just over one pound sterling!)about 5 years ago, but you don't see them in the stores no more. Not much help - sorry! Downside is that it does not work on the rare occasions we have the roof up and the side curtains fitted. Regards, Peter. |

Hi Gear engineering makers of the 5 speed conversion sell the brackets which fit the windscreen surround using the orginal screws similar to those used by Steve. They also have a pair of mirrors which fit the bracket. Regards...John |

From the guru's web site. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/accessories/at103c.htm There are several companies that sell the Desmo line, I'm not at work so the link I usually refer to isn't available and I can't remember it now. |

Many thanks guys. I just need a temp fix to get my car licenced, then it can be removed. I can only have flat glass also. Chris & Colin: Was it a simple task of just purchasing the item and attaching it, or did you have to adapt it slightly ? Also does anyone know where I can get this part in Australia, to speed up the process ? Many Thanks Mark. |

Mark, if you to the the UK Ebay site there's normally someone selling them on there. Although when I asked him he didn't export them yet, so you'd have to get someone over there to send it to you. Andy |

Mark When I had the same issue here, I got a mirror from a bicycle store, and made a bracket to attach ot to the winscreen pillar using the grab handle screws. It was removed immediately after the test |

Mark Very easy to fit. No adjustment needed. Clamps on with a couple of allen screws onto the lip running down the windscreen upright. Comes with a small plate to protect the upright so the screws don't bite in. Seem to remember I might have had to very slightly bend the bracket to get the mirror at the right angle, that was easy. The glass is flat. Chris. |

Many thanks to all. I made a bracket in the end and fitted a Raydot mirror, as it was going to take too long to import the correct one. I've got my old twin cam with 18v engine registered now in Perth, as so one step closer to competing in the around-the-houses series with the local VSCC... Thanks again to all Mark. |
