MG MGA - wiper motor
I replaced the wheel boxes and cable on the MGA today. I tested the motor while it was out of the car. It operated about 15 seconds, then quit. I believe something must have shorted. I have read threads where a midget or MGB motor can be used, but involves changing a gear and switch. Does anyone know of an interchangeable motor from another make car that will fit? |

I think Morris Minor 1000, Austin Healey Sprite MK1, and Triumph TR3 and TR4 have the same wiper motor. Also it is quite possible someone in the U.K. may do service exchange units. Dave. |

The MGB (14W model) 2 speed motor can be fitted but it needs a bit of work to make it suitable. I have fitted one to my car and it works really well. You need to do the following to make the motor fit. Make up a new mounting plate as the new motor is a little larger than the original one. You can buy a special rubber lined clamp and a rubber base plate to fasten down the motor to the new baseplate Fit a new 90 degree crank wheel to reduce the swept arc of the wiper blades on the screen. Fit a special MGB toggle switch to operate the motor. Make up a new short loom to connect the new motor. Look up Barneys article on this in MGA Guru. It would have been easier to just buy another MGA motor but I just really wanted to try the 2-speed. Colyn |

I had mine rebuilt for about $ 75. He advertises in NAMGAR. I think his name is Laurie Rhodes. When I tested after I got it back I thought it was DOA. Wrong. It ran so smoothly and quietly I couldn't believe it. Well worth it. |
