MG MGA - Wiper Motor Switch
According to the manual and the wiring instructions the wiper motor seems to be properly connected. However after connecting the switch and pulling it to the "on" position nothing the motor doesn't move but I can hear the battery crackling. NOTE: Once the motor received power it moved to the "park" position. I tested the motor before installation and it worked perfectly. Does changing the car from positive to negative ground impact wiring? Can anyone offer some advice? |

You most likely have the wires connected to the wrong terminals at the wiper motor. They are easy to get wrong, and if you do the park switch will short 12volts to ground. Again, Barney has a good page about this. http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et110.htm |

Gerard, In short, going to neg ground will not affect the operation of a previously operating wiper motor. It is a universal wound motor and will run the same regardless of the polarity of the input. Chuck |

What this about a crackling battery? I can't imagine this is a good thing. Bill |

I have heard a battery crackle. It was when the corrosion in the terminals was great. It would attract the morning dew. when I tried to start the engine, there was no sound but crackle as the moisture would boil off from the heat generated at the battery connection. Cleaning the battery terminals cleared up the problem. I hope that this is your problem. If not, then crackle is, as Bill says, not "a good thing" Chuck |

Thanks to all. Last Saturday I attempted to apply direct current from a 12-volt battery to the motor to see if it works - the same test I used before installing it. The motor did not move so I assume the motor is not working. The motor is currently being repaired. |
