MG MGA - Wiper Wheelboxes
Does anyone know the original Lucas part number for the windshield wiper wheel boxes? Any cross reference(s) to other car applications would be appreciated as well. Thanks, Steve |

Steve When you find the number and IF you are interested in Original Lucas parts check out the "Lucas items available" thread on the MGC BBS. Larry |

I would recommend the originals - I had repro ones and a repro rack tube that were never particularly reliable (kept slipping etc). As soon as I replaced with originals, everything was fine. I may have a rack tube still if anyone needs one. |

Dominic, I am in need of a wiper center rack tube. If you are willing to part with one, let me know cost and shipping. I almost sent this without letting you know where I live to calcualte the shipping cost. I am in Sammamish, Washington, the zip code is 98075. Thanks! John |

You can make the wiper drive tubes from brake pipe, cut to length and flare the ends. The center piece has only a mild curve to roughly match curvature of the body shell. |

Steve, According to the Lucas Equipment for Cars 1948-62 booklet, the Lucas part number is 75297. As far as I can see this specific part number was only used on Riley 1.5 and Austin Healey 3000 1958-62. However, I am sure that there were only small changes on motors supplied to other cars of the era. Neil |

Whilst we are on the subject of wheel boxes, I seem to remember Dominic did some research on MGB 2 speed motors and which wheel boxes? I seem to remember it was using a 125 deg gear? Dominic, or anyone, can you help Colin |

Had a brainstorm!! Just checked out the archive, as I am sure we had discussed this before! Memory not what it used to be!! It was a 105 deg wheel, that explains why I have too much travel with a 125!!!! Which were the correct wheel boxes, maybe I have got that wrong as well. By the way, the B 2 speed motor is working with 2 speeds and parks, on the correct side. I used the standard B toggle switch and rewired accordingly. Colin |

Is this the part you refer to (see image)? Mine is out of the car for rebuild so the part numbers are easy to read. They are: 12V 75297B 257 DR2 DA49 Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the replys so far. I'm actually trying to find the P/N's of the Lucas wiper driver wheelboxes, not the wiper gear box or motor number. The wheelboxes are the parts that the wiper arms attach to and are driven by the coiled drive wire. Thanks, Steve |

Barney, Thanks for the suggestion on the wiper guide tube. Dominic, with Barney's suggestion there is no need for you to go to the time and expense of shipping a used tube to me from the EU. Thanks, John |

Steve, Wheelbox part number 72674. Also used on Austin Healey 56-57 and Sprite 58-60 (bugeye). Changed to 72744 on MkII and used on Austin Healey 58 on and Spridgets. I assume these two part numbers are interchangeable. John, Dominic is not in the EU! LOL Although the part would have had to pass through to get to you. |

Neil: Thanks very much. This is exactly the information that I was looking for. Two more questions: Does your reference have the P/N for the large nylon gear in the motor housing itself along with cross vehicle applications? And, where did you find such a useful reference manual (Lucas Equipment for Cars 1948-62 booklet)? This would be great information for an LBC enthusiasts' website. Thanks again, Steve |

Part number 743943 (and 744743 MkII, odd because the motor complete is the same part no.) Also used on the Healeys/midgets. Got the book here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-TC-TD-TF-MGA-1500-1600-Mk-II-LUCAS-48-62-Parts-Book_W0QQitemZ380104618298QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Manuals_Literature?hash=item380104618298&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Neil |
