Welcome to our resource for MG Car Information.
MG MGA - www.MGAgugu.com - at your service
Greetings MGA BBS fans, I can't wait to see how many responses this calls up. Sorry about some recent incorrect member-name tags on a few recent posts. Apparently the BBS has a system bug and will post up the wrong name for a response by a non-member (or a real member just not logged in). I have not been a regular visitor, but I intend to check in here more often, and I HAVE logged in properly this time. I know my name and web site have been mentioned here occasionally, but I'd like to make it formal. Anyone who hasn't seen it yet should check out http://MGAguru.com The second page is more interesting if you want to bookmark it http://mgaguru.com/mg01.htm On this site there are more than 600 pages of tech information for the MGA, much of it also relevant to other MG models. The entry MG Tech Index is here: http://MGAguru.com/mgtech There is also an expanded index which will print out about 6 pages long. And there is a search function which will nicely gather together a significant number of pages related to whatever search word (or phrase) you like. The search function covers the whole web site, not only the tech pages. Most of the tech information posted here is a response to MG enthusiasts asking questions. So if you can't find answers to your MGA questions here, feel free to ask, and it could spawn another web page. For what it's worth, this web site has been serving up more than 70,000 page views per month (and increasing rapidly). Check it out, and feel free to comment or ask questions. Best to all, Barney Gaylord 1958 MGA with an attitude http://MGAguru.com

Barney Glad to have you formally "aboard" this BBS. I have used your site for years and it is definitely in my bookmark list. Larry 58A

Echo the above, good to have you monitoring our madness. I've also got your site bookmarked, a great help already and I have a long way to go on my project.

Barney, Just make sure the boys over at the Internet Archive have a copy of it on file (plug in your URL into their Wayback Machine to see IF they have it stored and WHEN was the last update). http://www.archive.org/ You have given a tremendous gift to the MG/MGA community, and it would be a shame to loose it, should something untoward were to happen. It is just nice to know that someone cares enough to give you a back up. It is a great resource for lots of other worthwhile sites that have vanished from the usual Google search over the years.

Welcome Barney! You and I have sorta done the misnaming game. It think happens like this: I email you and say, "check out this thread on the BBS" and then I simply copy and paste the one from above on this thread: http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=thread&access=&subject=6&source=T&thread=200504071927047083 If you select this thread, I believe your response will have my name on it, not yours. It certainly would help my credibility! And yes sir, your webpages help us all on an ongoing basis. The fuel gauge lesson has become the standard answer for most queries. Thank you. Paul

OK, I tried www.mgagugu.com and it's not in DNS. And here I thought Barney was starting a new babytalk web site for total novices!

Hi Barney Just would like to thank you for all the wonderful info and time that you put into your site. I have used the info many times and have been remiss in not saying thanks earlier. We meet a few years ago at the meet in Grand Bend when you were the volunteer bartender. THANKS BILL

Hi Barney. Add me to the list of folks who have been delighted with and thankful for your website, and the extremely comprehensive and useful information it has provided! You are truly an MG knowledgeable individual and enthusiast, and a friend to anyone with an ailing MG. Thanks for your generous ongoing contribution, and assistance. Glenn

Indeed, Barney's site has been one of those hidden gems of the web fo MG owners. Kudos on a job well done!

I have many bits on my car that have been resurrected thanks to your site Barney - including my fuel guage, wiper motor and signal switch. Good man!

Barney, You're the man. Your site is my primary reference and you've save my A** many a time. My sincere thanks and gratitude. Safety Fast, Phil White

Barney, let me add my "me too" to the list of grateful people for your website. Your info on carpet & interior replacement proved very helpful and I wanted to thank you for the info that you sent me on identifying engine numbers by car #. When I hit a snag on anything that I may be working on, your website is the first place I go. Clayton

For those of you not familiar with Mr Gaylord he is also a very talented gymkahna driver ....I watched you attack the track at Mad Dogs a year or two ago and you were very impressive ....I overheard several Miata drivers saying "how does he do that in that old MG" as you blew their doors off. Does your A have a close ratio tranny....? Your site is one of best tools an A owner can have in the tool box.

Barney, I bought my A a year and a half ago, knowing nothing about them but that I liked them. I have been to your site countless times, and appreciate the effort that you have put into it. Welcome from one of the newbies. Mike

Greetings again, and thanks to all for the welcome. Let me try to catch everything at once. Bob M. - Thanks for the reminder about The Wayback Machine, although they seem to be about six months behind on archiving. As long as my URL is working anyone can catch the most recent changes with the Search function. I also have some intention to make arrangements for the web site to survive beyond my mortal existence. David B. - Sorry about the "gugu" thing, and apology to everyone. I have a bad case of dyslexic fingers, which may have been a virus that came with the reading glasses several years ago. For perfect clarity, the URL is - mgaguru.com - MGAguru.com - mgaGURU.com It is not case sensitive and works with or without www in front. Email addrerss is - barneymg@mgaguru.com Also not case sensitive. Watch out for the web page addresses though. A change in Microsoft browser software several years ago makes web page URLs case sensitive on the internet, even though they are not case sensitive for the mirror site on my local hard drive. Bill M. - I don't remember tending bar at Grand Bend, but I do still have the Hoser Eh's t-shirt I received for winning the parts board contest. I love being an honorary Hoser, but I'm having trouble getting a replacement for the t-shirt. Thomas K. - My MGA has a stock gearbox, not close ratio. When running at Mad Dogs the engine was still stock 1500 except for the 18 head. The briskness of procession is a function of Attitude (and a lot of practice). One of the best parts of competing with SCCA (and the Miata club) over the years is the look on peoples' faces when the old British iron puts some much newer cars to shame. Don't be afraid to stick your foot in it. These cars love to run briskly. Safety Fast, Barney

DANG !!! It did it again, and I could swear I was logged in properly. Sorry about that Jim. How do we contact the BBS manager to get the username problem fixed? Barney |
