MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Tell me what you think of this.
|first off, this isn't my car but a picture i found on the internet. i wouldn't chip up an example as nice as the car in this original picture. second, this is only photoshop work. so no car has been bastardized. but i wanted to get some opinions on some ideas i had for body modifications on an mgb.|

A guy calling himself the autoist (or something like that) was going to do somthing like this, very Aston Martin. Haven't hear from him in a while, pity, he has a neat website.
Looks are purely a personal point however I would delete the front (and rear if any) overriders as they do not seem to line up with anything else in that part of the car and add a chrome trim strip to link the vent on the wing shoulder and the door handle and emphasise the length of the body.
This will allow the grille to make a more agressive visual statement and provide a foil for the wheels as well.

|thanks for the comments. here's an update based on some of what you've said. it does have an aston-ish feel to it. luckily astons are incredibly beautiful. i changed the fender vent to an oval to mirror the shape of the door handle inset.|
|I don't know if I'd delete the overriders. There's a great tradition of British cars having slight fangs ... most recently with the Jag XK8. I'm no car designer, but it all looks out of whack to me with the huge uninterrupted chrome strip ... also, can you try making the lower grille a little less deep vertically?|
|Seems like I remember a prototype made by Aston Martin that looked very similar to this. Seems like it was to be a revived A-M MGB, early 80's maybe. Anyone else remember anything like this or did I dream this?|

Perhaps the front bumper should not cross the front grill, just the bumper tips as the 70 Camaro. Also reduce the opening a bit so that it would be more to scale.

It needs the overriders, but the size of the grill makes it look too heavy in the front, in my opinion. By the way, the Aston Martin restyled MGB was featured in Practical Classics several years ago, seems like about 98 or 99.

|sure. i can do it when i get home. i don't have the image here at work. i'll try the split bumper too. i'll probably just end up doing a fairly stock look with a new front fascia and removing the side strip (+vent hole). but i'd like to get a ford302 into it like your car larry.|

....&, have been working on body of the '79 Pageant Blue V8 car...thanks for your comments...I've smoothed the ridge out of my driver rear quarter & am working on making a Sebring rear valance out of metal (old midget's butt) which, I must say, is a chore...& flaring the rear fender wells just a tad for my 205 tires....I'll try to get some photos up on my site...other thing I'm working on is the vents through my front fiberglass fenders...like the one in the photo above but couldn't find it so am going with '49 Buick port holes hooked up to hoses venting hot air from top rear corners of hood....

MAN YOUR GOOD!! But as I feared, the front end looks to tall and square without the bumper using that air dam and grill layout. I think the best would be to move the over-riders on the 1st picture in so they are at the mid point between the MG emblem on the grill and the outside edges of the grill. That make sense?? They both need to move INWARD a bit. On the 1st picture there is a reflected triangle on the bumper coming from the base of the passenger over rider.. move the overider so that it is at the inner point of the triangle or there-abouts and then move the driver's side in to match.. hope that makes sense, I have NO photoshop skills or I would try myself... Failing that, the split bumper does look best..
|Could you possibly try bringing the bottom of the grill out a bit and bringing the two vertical edges in over the lower half of the gril? Dont know if that makes sense, but it might look alright. I'd be interested to see it if you could. The split bumpers do look awesome though.|

|Now, try powdercoating the windshield frame black...&, the wide area on each fender under the headlight needs something as its too big...&, blank...|
...make the bottom half of the grille smaller than the top by angling it inward sorta like an alfa romeo center grille emblem

The crossover was used on the mid 60's B. It was kind of a grill protector.
I see some "shaping" added on the bottom part of the grill but that's it?
What I am seeing in your picture though makes me wonder what it would look like to leave the MGb rounded nose (AKA stock valance shape) and use a big grill like in these concepts?? For the no bumper look I think that would be the ticket.
Let me try and flex my meager skills again, probably just end up with migrane, but it all for the good of the marquee...
|Nice work, everyone. Gives one a lot to think about. Now, what about the rear having a split bumper to carry the theme further. Sort of like the '70 B or would you match the front with a much wider split? Would you move the plate mounting down to the area between the bumpers? Then, you might want to clean up the area above the bumpers a little.|
|Bob...My V8 car will have no rear bumper...right now, I'm forming a Sebring-type valance out of the rear of a Midget...the license plate will be below the bumper fold line in a recess between the 2 halves of the Midget butt....gonna try & get photos on my website later in week of the first fitting of half the Midget butt.....|
