MG MGB Technical - @%#*$ Horn
I bought an aftermarket steering wheel on E-Bay for my 73B. I do not know the brand name of the wheel and do not have the proper boss for it. So I have no horn as the brush and other contacts do not fit this wheel. The wheel is great, though! Fits perfectly and great in those tight turns. Looks great and cost $58.00! A while back, it was suggested on this BBS to put a horn button on or under the dash when all else failed. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this. I do not like to "Mickey Mouse" things, but this may be the only solution in this case. By the way, the DPO already installed a starter button on the console so this would not be breaking new ground.I read the many threads involving horn problems and I would like to avoid major problems. Any help would be appreciated. |

Your indicator stalk ,if it is a push type has a contact to operate the horn .Costs $0 |

I checked and the stalk is not a push type. That would have been simple fix, if possible. Thanks Jose. |

How about your wiper stalk? If you don't have an overdrive fitted you could use it. Of course you would have to pull it back to turn the horn off as it is not spring loaded. I used that trick once on my '70 when the fan switch went out. |

Can you find the wiper stalk that has the horn push on it and do a refit? |

A couple of untried possibilities, Gary. The earlier 1968-71? flasher/headlamp/signal lever switch does use the stalk mounted horn button. To what extent the two switches, yours and this one are similar, I think you'd have to research, but if it mounts and plugs into your harness pretty much the same, possibly with some minor modification, perhaps one of these early ones might do. As mentioned, the wiper stalk/switch has a push button on it for the wiper washer pump motor and a position for the O/D switch. By reversing the functions of these two sets of wires, you could, theoretically, use the pump push button switch to power your horn, and use the O/D pull lever to activate the washer pump motor. Just a thought. |
