MG MGB Technical - 12 Inch Wiper Inserts
Small Problem: I need two windscreen wiper inserts for my 71 BGT (12" inserts). They don't seem to be available from any of the local parts stores and I don't like the offerings from MOSS or Vicky Brit. I want to retain the original stainless arms and just replace the inserts. Any ideas? Jack |

Buy a 24" insert and cut it in half. Unless I'm misunderstanding your dilemma... |

Jack; I buy longer inserts of the same type as my wiper arms and cut them to length. Clifton |

Sorry, I didn't mean to duplicate the post by TheMiz. Clifton |

TheMiz & Gordon: Thanks for the info. I've already looked at a couple of longer blades with that in mind but haven't found one that will fit without wobbling. Gordon, you indicate that you've found one that works. Do you remember the brand? Are you using the original stainless arms? Jack |

Jack, My arms appear to be original but I have no history of the car prior to purchasing it in 1998. I don't recall the name of the insert as I bought it several years ago. I took an old insert into an Advance Auto store and found what I needed. Clifton |

My midget uses the original stainless arms and blade holders. I cut down the inserts from a cheap set of "dual blade" wipers and they fit fine. Don't have the brand information. Just make sure that each blade has the retaining clip portion or the blade won't stay in place. |

Everyone: Thanks for the info. I was going to stop looking at longer inserts but now feel confident that persistance will be of value. I'll find a longer one that will work. Jack |

Sometimes, JC, you may have to do a bit of re-engineering even for wiper inserts. I do my blade renewal as Clifton and The Miz seem to, but I do have to sometimes modify the metal braces in the inserts, or pull just the rubber blade and reuse the rest of the rubber blade mounting bits from a previous successful install. My favorite blades at this moment are those marketed by Rain-X. I use those on all our other vehicles and they seem to work equally as well, even slightly modified, for the MG. |
