MG MGB Technical - 12 v battery again!!!

I am trying to do a 12 volt battery conversion. I have read through all the past threads on this have found a suitable battery.
But before i bought it i took the measurements made a box up to the size to try it.
But in the right side battery bin it would fit if it was not for some sort of electrical thing that is in the holeon the side.
The rear of it is in the battery bin hole it has 2 wires protruding out. Does anyone know what this is? If i was to put the battery in in would be resting on this.
Please any advice would be great thanks..

It is the fuel pump. Cheers - Dave

What 12 volt battery are you proposing to use?

There is lots of information on these boards about US batteries but I can't recollect anyone posting the name(s) of current UK 12 volt batteries for MGAs or MGBs.

It is a group 26 Battery i don't know what one as i asked at a local shop, they sourced one and then gave me the measurements to try to see if it would fit. Is this the correct battery?
Thanks

Group 26 seems to be an American description for a battery. It also from the archives seems to be the correct battery.

Can anyone give us the equivalent UK description for a Group 26 battery please.

Just put the battery in the engine bay...
Ther space is there, at least on rhd cars!
I´ve done it and ot not only looks ok but is very convenient!

Nigel,

I am using a 40AH battery for an old 3-series BMW. Before this I had an even smaller 36AH-battery (for Gold 1 & 2 models) and this workes as well.
Both types fit perfectly as the picture shows. I will get the type-number and specs the next time I open the bonnet.

I have a 12v battery, i'll look for you this week and post - i have forgotten the code now as its some months since i fitted it. I know that Halfords do that will fit although mine did not come from there.

Im fairly certain that I put a Type 63 battery into my B. I had to cut off the mounting lugs at the base of the battery though because it was such a close fit.

I would check the type - but Im in the wrong country at the moment.

Nigel,
In the US, batteries are specified by the BCI group number, which can be translated here:
http://www.rtpnet.org/~teaa/bcigroup.html

Incidentally, BCI stands for "Battery Council International," which despite the name, apparently isn't. Or maybe it's North America only....

Thanks Rob

Off to buy a battery.
