MG MGB Technical - 1964 mgb front wheel bounce

My 64 b roadster has a problem. Above 30 miles per hour the Right front wheel starts bouncing up and down wich cause the steering wheel to shake. The car has 14 inch wire wheels.........

Drive slower. :p My guess is a severely out of balance wheel. Perhas the weights fell off? Or maybe you hit a curb and got a flat spot in the wheel?
Steve Simmons

Or perhaps your shock absorber ( damper) is shot ?
Chris Betson

Even if it were, wouldn't a wheel need to be out of balance to bounce so severely?
Steve Simmons

No, if a bump in the road causes a wheel to bounce and it is not damped by the shock absorber it can continue and even increase. I have see cars with both front shock absorbers disabled where the front of the car eventually bounces clean off a smooth road once something has started it bouncing. If you press down firmly on each corner of the car and let go rapidly you should only see it move up, down less, and possibly up slightly. Any more bounces that that is a bad shock absorber.
Paul Hunt

lean on each corner of the car starting at the front, push down and release, the car should return to its ride hight almost immediately and not continue to bounce up and down, this will show which shock is shocking and should be replaced .
i had the same prob ,t the oil had leaked out but a new shock sorted it out.

Probably not the case here but I do remember that I had a midget which for some reason or other had one of the front wheels so grossly over inflated that it would bounce/skip along when cornering in one direction. I can't remember whether it was the direction of the over-inflated wheel or the other but someone will work it out, I'm sure
Marc

You might want to inspect all of the front end bushings as well.
