MG MGB Technical - 25D Distributors

I know some of you subscribe to the mailing list, so please forgive the duplicate post. I found a couple of distributors with the following numbers: 41400A and 41148A. I found on one website that the 414 corresponds to a midget and Kai responded that the other was for a morris (I think, deleted email too soon). What I am trying to find out is will these work with my car? I have a '73 B. I assume that it would be possible to swap out the springs and weights from my distributor to try and match the advance of my car better?

Thanks
Zach

They will certainly work, but whether the car will run well enough is a different matter. As well as weights and springs the distributor cam shaft enters the equation as many use a stop on the shaft to limit the maximum advance, there will be a number stamped on the stop plate in these cases, representing *distributor* degrees (double it to get crankshaft degrees. By the same token unless the weights are to the same design in both distributors they may not fit properly. Besides which your old springs may be shot anyway.
