MG MGB Technical - 78 Brake servo orientation
Does anyone know the correct orientation for the later style MGB brake servo? Is the vacuum port positioned upper or lower? The cover will only fit 1 way with the master cylinder studs still horizontal but it seems like the base could be rotated 180 degrees on the pedal box. Mine has been taken apart and put back together so I'm not sure now which way is correct as I've seen pictures on the 'net mounted both ways. My port is on the top toward the center of the engine compartment but it seems like the hose routing might be a little better if it was under the MC. TIA Mike |

Mike, Under and towards the fender on my 79 MGB. It can be a bugger to get the stock hose to let go from the fitting...I had to use a little heat and screw drivers to push mine off. |

Arghhh I was afraid I put mine together wrong. It looks like a bugger of a job to turn the servo plate around with everything mounted. Mike |

OK Starting with the MC already removed, I managed to rotate mine in about 1 hour. I only removed the 4 nuts on the servo mounting plate, turned 180 and re-attached the nuts. Helps to have a helper and u-jount sockets. Mike |

fitting an after market servo, any advice on fitting. Do you need any special tools for the copper piping etc. thanks ken |

As with any hydraulics are the pipes the correct length, flared and fitted with the correct nuts? If not you'll need a cutter and flaring tool. If you can avoid tight bends you should be able to get away without a bending tool, without which tight bends can flatten the tubing. |
