MG MGB Technical - 79-B ALTENATOR
Now that we have the new exhaust and the new distributor conversion done, the altenator has packed up. I have heard of converting this unit to a GM-Delco. If anyone can enlighten me on this topic, I would be greatful: Is this conversion a simple "plug-n-play" type of change? If not what else is involved? Would it be wiser to get an exchange unit for the one which is currently in the car?? Thanking all in advance cheers Gary :>{D 79 MGB |

Gary, I don't have any experience with this, but I was reading about it the other day, while looking for something else. Check out this website: http://www.mgbexperience.com/service/delco.html and this one: http://teglerizer.com/alternator/index.html John |

Gary; The Saturn alternati=or conversion is supposed to be easy. http://www.onefastmgb.com/pages/6/index I haven't tried any conversion. I still have a spare Lucas to use before thinking about a conversion. If you have some high current consuming accessories the Saturn conversion is a good choice. Clifton |

This page is better.... http://www.onefastmgb.com/pages/6/index.htm I used a Bosh 85 Amp (BXF1255A= Aust./NZ part numer). My (v. good) experiences are detailed here: http://www.britishcarforum.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB4&Number=121005&Searchpage=1&Main=121005&Words=alternator+upgrade&topic=&Search=true#Post121005 No complaints whatsoever, and am next looking forward to upgrading headlamps to Cibie halogens! |

OOPS. I will be in touch with the fellow who is doing the work for me at Readers' Digest garage and forward these links to him. The car SHOULD be ready for the 250 mile trip up here to our new abode once he is done with his handywork. I will post the results when the task is complete cheers Gary :>{D |

OK, got the phone call. The 79 MGB is ready for flight. Now all I need to do is go to Reader's Digest Auto Center and pick it up. So we soon see how this conversion to GM Delco Remy altenator fairs. I will post when this trip is complete Again, many thanx to all who contributed to my cause. Hope to go to Stowe, VT in Sept. Perhaps I will get to meet some of you there. Cheers Gary :>{D 79 MGB |
