MG MGB Technical - A Horny Question for you.
Yes... gents... a question about horns! What else could it be with a title like that? Hmmmm... Well, enough said... down to business. I was cruising Ebay when I came a across this horn button: 'MG Push Horn Button : Item number: 4583593570' http://cgi.ebay.com/MG-Horn-Push-Button_W0QQitemZ4583593570QQcategoryZ27380QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (I hope that link works) Can anyone tell me what year this steering wheel push horn is from? Reason I ask is that I have this one on my 67Mk1 B. I know it isn't the right one for the car. But I need to replace the current one I have (is all splintered/cracked). I'm certain that this is the same one on Ebay. I am wanting to buy a new or top condition used one. Firstly, I would like to know from what exact model MG it's from. Any ideas? Unfortunately, I can't find it listed in any of my cataloges (Moss etc). If it is there, well, I can't see it... or it just isn't obvious enough to me. I have ordered a couple of buttons from catalogues in the past, but kept getting the wrong part. (eg. Part: CHA747 is not it. Too large/wrong shape/finish). This badge/button is quite small (about 2 inches diameter across). I'm starting to get frustrated trying to track it down. I have been looking for it off and on for the past 2 years! So I would be grateful if anyone can help me narrow down my search for it. Thanks in advance Mark |

Mr. D. I had a problem getting the wrong horn push, until I found that I was ordering the right part, I in fact had the wrong steering wheel...it had been replaced by the previous owner. Sometimes these things happen. Just a thought. Jim |

It *looks* the right style for an early B or possibly MGA, how does it compare in size and rear appearance with the one you have, is what I would be asking myself. |

Not MGA, they don't have a horn push. Not early MGB, the horn push of an early MGB (certainly to 1964) should gave a red part with having wazy lines in it and this one hasn't got thoese. Also the edge of this is rounded, an early MGB one is not. Perhaps from a late 60's early 70's car? John. |

I just received one like it. These are for aftermarket steering hubs to fit the motolita or Lecarra wheels. I ordered the MGA hub and my horn button on the dash but it is a nice piece. |

My 67 roadster has the stock wheel and it is the red with silver or Chrome looking wavey lines. and yes it is about 2 inches (the MG emblem) but the whole button is 3 inches across. mine is orange too. most used ones will be because they all get sun bleached out! Cheers...James. |

Looks like a dead ringer for the one on my 70' B.Orig. steering wheel. |

Hi Guys I have been talking to a local supplier. He seems to think it may be from a midget. He doubts it would be from a later MGB (eg 1970) as the splines on the steering column were a different size. He said that the early Midgets were the same as the early B's so they could fit. The plot thickens!!! |

Barrie, I contacted Nepean Classic Cars in Sydney as per your suggestion. Unfortunately, they were unable to help. Thanks for the suggestion though. On with my quest! |
