MG MGB Technical - A leak! but very unusal
Doing some winter projects on my 79 mgb le. Front end rebuild, K&N filters, minilites etc. Flushed cooling system, new radiator and hoses put all back together and got her to working temperature, tighted one clamp to stop a little leak on bottom rad hose. Great! right? .... Nope! I have a steady leak coming from one of the heater hoses right at the heater cover in engine compartment; I didn't even touch this area!!! Hose is tight still leaks, flow changes as one wiggles the hose. What the #@&*&* !never leaked before! The old: one step forward...two steps back! HHHHEEEEELLLLPPPPPPPPP!! Kevin |

Kevin, Been my experience that when you bring a cooling system up to snuff, the new weakest point takes up the slack for the old weakest point that you've just fixed. Sad but true, and it's part of Murphy's Law that it's going to be in an area hard to get at. That's why it never got much attention before....but it will now. Best, Joe |

Kevin - you probably flushed away the crud that was keeping the heater core from leaking. You can try changing the hose, but I bet you'll need to pull the core and have it repaired. Good luck, Bud |

My heater core leaks. Even with the heater valve shut water would end up pooling in the bottom of the heater space then slosh out of the footwell vents whenever I went around corners! In the end I just bypassed the heater all together with a piece of fuel hose the right size. I'll fix it one day but for now no leaks! Simon |

The heater hose may have developed a crack under its clamp. This often happens and can be cured by trimming 1/2 inch off the hose. |
