MG MGB Technical - Aftermarket fuel pump

I have recently picked up a '78 MGB as a parts car. Buried in the trunk was a brand new electric fuel pump, the same that is advertised in the Moss Catalog. I have no directions and I am no electrical genius so can anyone tell me where and how to hook this unit up? The Moss Catalog states that the pump can be set up to push or pull through the original fuel pump or put it in line with a switch to use it as needed. The pump has one black wire (ground) and a red wire coming from it. This is going on a '79 B which has not run in years but hopefully will be fired up by August. The original fuel pump has been rebuilt and seems to work OK when hooked up to a battery. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Larry, I'll assume David's communication will answer your puzzles.

I have one of those $80 Moss pumps picked up at a local "Auto Store" for about $30.

Having a positive grounded car, the black was hot while the red became ground. Mounting is easy and over 5 years and 12,000 miles it has worked quite well.

Although I'd like to keep the car with all original parts, (SU pump) there are sometimes where saving a few bucks allows for getting other parts -- needed or just wanted.

I still have some unresolved questions about a pressure regulator. There's a set of Gross Jets in the carbs and don't seem to get any over-flow from the bowls, so I assume all is well.

GLG - The facet pumps of which you speak put aout from 2.5 - 4 psi, so should not be a problem for the carbs. the normal SU pump for the MGBs are rated at 2.7psi, but I have found, like you, that Facet pumps work fine with no regulator needed. Cheers - Dave

David,

Thanks for the info and the pictures. Very useful as this is exactly what I had on my mind to do. I even found a couple of those rubber mounts in my spare parts box so will mount as you did. I am doing body work on the car now and I am getting a little tired of pushing the thing around so may go ahead and try to get everything in working order and fire this puppy up. Thanks again...
