MG MGB Technical - Another headlight chrome ring question
Thanks for the suggestions on removing the headlight rings. When I got my 73B roadster the body had been fairly decently restored. However, cheap fenders had been used and there are a number of minor alignment issues. One of these was the mislocated welded on headlight rings I discussed in an earlier post, and which I straightened out this weekend. So, there is now enough room all around the chrome rings to make them fit around the headlights. I bought new set of the large rubber backup ring gaskets from Moss. These create about an 1/8"+ rubber standoff between the back of the steel rim of the headlight socket and the fender. Question is whether or not these rubber gaskets should be completely buried within the back edge of the chrome ring. I've managed to get chrome ring all the way to the fender surface about 70 to 80 percent of the way around the lights, thus hiding the edge of the rubber gaskets, but not completely hiding it all the way around. Is this pretty typical? Thanks, BH |

BH, I don't know if my car is correct but those gaskets are exposed on my 74. I replaced them about 9 years ago and as I recall the old gaskets were also exposed. Clifton |

Yes, you should be able to see the gasket. |

Yes the gasket is always visible. The OE ones were not as chunky as the replacements, but they did disintegrate after about 10 years. |
